Icon5 Another question about the Sub

Hi guys,

Still being a noob I had a question regarding the Sub.

Ive noticed that the non date version has two holes on either side of the watch body where the (bracelet) pins connect to the watch, and that the Sub date doesnt.

Why the difference ? Any disadvantages to this or advantages ?

Thanks in advance

I think you may be looking at an earlier production Sub. After 2003 or so all of them come without the lug holes. Different design for a more streamlined look.

The non-date still has the lug holes and non SEL bracelet!!! The Sub date has the no holes case and has the SEL bracelet

Some people prefer the lug holes and non-SEL.

The lug holes make it a little easier to remove the bracelet, that's the only advantage.

Lug holes make it easier to remove/switch the bracelet. Also the non-SEL tends to rattle a little more from what I hear.

The 14060M is the last and only sport model to use a lug hole case. As stated lug holes generally disappeared some time in the Y series.
Lug holes allow the bracelet to be changed more easily and some prefer the "smooth" look of the T case (no lug holes).

I don't think there's any real difference in "strength". The 14060M is also the last to use a non-sel bracelet.

There is a big difference in springbars as the non-lug case takes a double shouldered spring bar.

lug non-sel,

no lug hole sel,

Yes, the 14060M is the ONLY Sub left that has the holes in the lugs.

The "no holes" cases were introduced in 2002, btw.

I really like the 14060M, especially due to the fact that it has kept some of the "old design" features such as no holes case, non SEL's and the old-style diver's extension link.

SOME even say that a TRUE diver's watch simply MUST have holes in the case to ease bracelet exchange.

There CAN be some issues with the bracelet for the Sub ND since it has NON SEL's. The non SEL's tend to make more noise when you handle the bracelet, and in some cases the easy fold-out diver's extension link simply folds out TOO easily (unintentionally!). An ADVANTAGE of the NON SEL's is that you can "adjust" them if they need adjustment since they are just a piece of bent sheet steel. The SOLID end links, however, cannot be "adjusted" easily if they wabble, since the SEL is ONE piece of solid steel. But normally you would be able to correct a wabbling SEL by adjusting the PIN that holds it.

Here is an example of a person who says that (in a review of the SD that still had holes in the lugs at the time of the review):

(do a page search for "drilled lug" in the review to see his words about them).
