1570 - Beautiful work horse, but just as noisy!

The 1570 is considered by many to be up there with the best, most reliable and solid movements ever. That's a given.

But is everyone else's as loud as mine??

Don't know why I only noticed it for the first time last night but I can hear my 1601 ticking away on my bed side table. It's louder than my late Dad's old Seiko from the same era; late 60s/early 70s.

Anyway, I had my old 1601 routinely checked over today (everything ticketyboo!) and aside from getting peace of mind over the loud tick, it was also the first time I'd had the opportunity to take a look-see at the heart and soul of my own watch.

I know there are more complex, more modern, more expensive movements out there, but it really is a beautiful old movement, isn't it?

Is everyone else's so noisy though?

I love the sound of a Rolex movement!
The anchor hitting the escape wheel...

My D series ExpII has a 3185 movement and its the only one I've had keep me up at night sitting on the night stand about 3 feet away. I can hear the fine, tuning fork like sound and other than losing a little sleep it is wonderful. It is my daily tool watch and I tend to keep my vintage watches in a leather pouch when they are in the rotation.

the 1570 is quite a work horse, maybe you live in the country and there is less noise or the atmosphere is thick with moisture, trapping and slowing the wave pattern?

Its the slower nature of the 1570's "heartbeat"---19,800 bph---that dictates how nice and clear those tick and tocks sound. I personally LOVE the steady, measured, calm beat of this classic old caliber...and find it relaxing, actually. Also agree with you that it is quite audible, but then again I find most slow beat calibers with large balance wheels to share the same characteristic.

The 10X and 15X movements give none of the high-pitched pinging/ringing that the later generation 30X and 31X range can, as these latter movements are ticking along much faster at 28,800vph.

I can't hear mine unless I hold it up to my ear.

My 1680 is quite audible too so it's not just your 1570. Sitting by my computer right now
and I hear the watch loud and clear. And yeah, it's a very thick ticking sound, nothing like
the metallic ring of later higher beat movements as Adam K. pointed out above.

Agreed. Whenever I have a quiet moment at work or home I hear the ticking and remember to check the time.

Personally I enjoy the "noisiness" of the movement - adds to the charm of the watch
