Northern Ireland has got a bit of bad publicity in the last few days (it always does this time of year), so I thought it was time to remind myself of why I love the place so much.

I set off along the Causeway Coastal route, driving past Larne and into the Glens of Antrim. Along the way, I took a few photos, which I am posting here.

Hopefully you will agree that this is a nice little corner of the world.

The weather was lovely too, and helped create a relaxed atmosphere. I saw lots of bikers out for a ride - biking is a really popular pastime here.

If you are planning your next holiday, why not come to Northern Ireland/

Beautiful pictures. I personally love Ireland. Been there a few times.. Prefer it being a bit sunnier, but as we all know that is a bit rare for that part of EUR. Anyways... sigh..

I think Ireland would be a great country to visit. But after what happened in Belfast recently, I think most of the animal community will boycot that area for awhile.

Best of luck, it is a beautiful country!

There is no need to - a localised bit of rioting that lasted a few hours has no effect on the rest of the two countries that make up this little island. We actually have an extremely low crime rate and the places where problems happen are not really ones you'd find in Frommers or Lonely Planet.

Problems in Compton shouldn't put people off visiting LA or the USA in general; a few idiots in Kreuzberg don't stop tourism in Germany. And judging by the massive numbers of tourists in every little corner of Ireland, north and south, people realise this.

I have traveled to the UK on many occasions (wife's family is in London) and we took a trip to Edinborough.
I would like to travel to Ireland (both portions), but don't really understand the "northern" & Ireland thing, ie- many rental car co's have a disclaimer "no renting in N Ireland", I do realize they are seperate contries, any info would be appreciated (plan to go back to UK next year after the Olympic hoopla dies down)

Beautiful photos of a beautiful country. One would be hard pressed to find a race of people as warm and friendly as the Irish. As has already said, there are idiots and hard areas where a visit is not recommended, but that is the same whatever country in the world one would tour.

If you check with a few car rental companies, you'll find some that include Northern Ireland. Most people base themselves in Dublin and tour from there.

Re the Olympics - I agree that it is best to avoid the UK while it is on.

My mother's parents were born in Dublin which makes me a dual citizen, a very generous legal accommodation that Ireland allows it's son's and daughter children. I took advantage of it and got my Irish passport in the 80's I've been to Dublin a few times which is where my family is from, but never to the North. Some day soon I hope!

Lucky you; apparently there are more Irish citizens outside the country than living in it. People born in Northern Ireland can, legally, choose to have UK or Irish citizenship or both.

Dublin is a great city, objectively speaking, it is the nicest part of the whole place.
