Congrats Bo! i know you'll give us good pics! maybe even a couple pics of it on a sponge!

seriously, did getting the 116520 influence your decision on flipping the SD? Did it seem 'old' to you compared to the GMT IIc?

Funny you should ask!

Since at first I did not think of the difference between the SD and the GMT IIc, and the SS Cos was not involved in the decision, at all.

BUT: When I got the SD ready for being picked up by the person who bought it, YES, then it suddenly struck me how NOISY the bracelet of the SD (and "conventional" Rolex bracelets before some of them were updated) is. I only thought about it in that very minute I touched my SD again (having worn my SS Cos for about a month's time now whose bracelet is not the least bit noisy!).

Can't believe I'm saying do it, but for 5k you're definitely coming out on top. Like all of our beloved pieces in current production, it can be easily replaced. I got my dweller about a week ago to keep my GMTII-C company and find that I'm much less concerned with it getting scratched. They have a completely different vibe. You'll see.

Interesting...I was holding off on getting a new (old) GMT, sub or SD b/c I'm convinced the bracelets will be updated. Who knows when, but they have to update with solid center links and better clasps, right? I'm at least going to wait until Basel 2008 to buy something in the SD or sub line.

You have to be kidding?

"I voted YES, Bo....go for it.

I've owned two SDs in my life, but each time I missed the cyclops and never felt like I had a Rolex on my wrist."

Congrats on the new GMT-IIc! It's a really nice watch. I hope you enjoy it.

I voted before I read the whole thread and saw that you've already committed to the deal. I voted "No", but only because "Hell NO!" wasn't a choice. The new GMT is nice, but I really like the SD! I've only seen one in the wild in all my years of Rolex spotting. It's a shame you couldn't just add the GMT to the collection without getting rid of the SD. The REAL shame is that I can't muster up the cash to buy your SD!

The "Spacedweller" Rolex did in fact exist!

Here it is (a super rare version of the Explorer, made for the Asian market to celebrate astronaut endeavour back then):

I wrote that on page 1:

An SD cost DKR. 36.200 in Denmark, and that equals US $ 7,000.

I did get 10 % off the SD, and 25.000 DKR is probably the best price I can get for it since some buy SD's abroad and get them taxfree to resell them in Denmark.

Flipping is not wise economically spoken, but if I want a GMT IIc, I have to sacrifize something else.

I will also have to save some more money to get the GMT IIc, despite the fact that I will get 10 % discount on it, too.

The GMT IIc is DKR. 42,300 in Denmark (US $ 8,200), you see. But I will then to able to get it in near future instead of having to save for it from scratch which would take me a LONG time.

That is also why I have had so many Rolex watches (21), since when you have a Rolex, you can flip it and get 80 % of the price for a new one, and so on. Yes, you lose money on it, but you get what you want.

I'm a bit late to this party and see the SD has gone.

I would have kept the SD as I'm not that keen on GMT's (apart from the Pepsi's look) however I do appreciate it's merits and any new Rolex watch is cause for celebration.

I hope you're as happy with this new watch as you were with your SD Bo. Congrats!!!!!

WOW!!! I genuinely didn't have any idea about that, how totally cool ! Is that where you arrived at your login, BTW?

But turning back to the topic at hand, I took a look at a SS GMTII-C, and loved it. Betcha won't flip that one as quick, they're very very nice in person. I didn't put it on my wrist, I know what would have happened . Your going to love it, Congradulations!
