Why would they not replace damaged link screws during an RSC Srvice?
There is a story about the rock star that insisted only one color M & M be put in a bowl in his dressing room. I figured this was narcissistic behavior on his part. Later on, I saw an interview with him and they asked why he did that. He said it was a test. If they could not get that right, what else did they mess up? Then it made sense.
The same is true of the link screws in the bracelet. I am not blaming the RSC for the damaged link screws. The slots look like a taper screwdriver was used to take the screws out with the same bad results seen in other threads. I do not know if it was done there or before by a previous owner. My question is, why were they not replaced? The RSC gives you a list of work that needs to be done and sometimes optional work they suggest be done. Why not list the link screws that are damaged if they are not going to be replaced during a regular service? More reasonably, the tech must have a box of them at the repair station, so why not just replace the damaged ones. The cost of screws in the amount Rolex uses them would not be much. If you just did a service on a piece of expensive jewelry, would you not want everything to be as perfect as possible? I called the RSC and they want me to bring the watches in so they can see them. The lady said they would never take out the screws so they did not do it. Again, I am not placing blame. I am just wondering why they were not automatically replaced or I was given the option to replace them during a $600 service. Actually, it was more than that because I did all the optional recommendations. Now I am wondering what other shortcuts were done. |

I don't think the bracelet is taken apart for service (I'm almost certain of that as I've seen how the bracelets are cleaned) so maybe it wasn't noticed. I've never heard of them replacing or not replacing "scratched" screws during service. Did you ask for new screws prior to the service? I'm guessing you didn't as you didn't notice them in the past. Anyway I hope they fix it for you quickly. I do not see this as an indication that Rolex would be taking shortcuts on your service.

First off, it's labor intensive to add new screw links, grind them flush to the link (if needed), and then repolish....but mainly....it's because most people don't have an eye for detail. When I purchase a watch, its one of the first things I look at to determine if an unskilled individual has done any work on it.
BTW: Your rock star analogy was excellent, I might have to use that one in the future |

Here are the pictures from my Droid. I wish I was as adept at taking photos as some of the other members. Yes, it was BH.
Thanks for the tip about replacement. The first two are from the Sub The next two are from the GMT Other than that the watches do look fantastic!!!!!!!! |

I understand your frustration. The only real fix to make it "perfect" is to buy the entire link new from Rolex. Each link screw is fitted to the link at the factory, so just replacing the link screw isn't an "exact" fit like I believe your looking for......

I see why you expected them to be replaced. They do look rough. Atleast you can have it fixed in the future. Also being on the side it's not noticeable when you wear it.

I went down to the RSC. They did not see anything wrong with the screw heads. I pointed out my concerns. They replaced two in one watch and after a bit of concern for the other two, they replaced them.
While I was standing there admiring the job they had done, I noticed her filling out paperwork with my name on it. I asked her what that was for? She said they had to account for every part and that was a memo to show they had used the parts. Now, I understand the reluctance. BTDTGTT All is well! I also asked her why a ceramic insert was so expensive to replace. She said that to break the ceramic insert takes so much force that it usually damages the bezel which has to be replaced. |

I'm sure this has been addressed before (so sorry for the repetition) but what is the cost to replace a bezel insert on a sub c or GMT 2 c?
