Happy and sad

Went down and picked up my GMT last night. The RSC shipped it in on Saturday. I'm very happy it is back home; it is clean and as pristine as the day I bought her. But, I'm also sad, since the old scratches and worn edges are no longer visible: it's like a new watch all over again. I put it on and took it off; put it on and took it off. This happened 'bout 3 times yesterday. Maybe I'll get the nerve today to put it on again and begin the whole process of making it mine once more.

Put it back on and go out to the local auto salvage yard to pull apart a few dashboards for parts - you'll have all those beloved scratches back in place in no time...

I think this is a very helpful post, OP, because all too often people obsess over surface perfection. What we really can love about our watches is the time they've lived with us, our own life course with them, and it's almost as if reconditioning wipes out those pleasant feelings and memories.

Now, on to rebuilding that lived-in feeling!

That happened with my Air King. I banged it up for 14 years and never thought twice about it. Got it serviced and it looks new. So now I'm really careful with it (which is a pain).
