Okay...here goes. Diamonds on a quintessential "tool/sport" watch...not so much. However, if you were going to "think" about 2 watches, AND you like the old deep blue, (me too!), rather than the ceramic "Smurf" blue, then you were going to spend in the "teens" of thousands for them. Thinking outside the box, if you could swing around $16K and some change, why not get a D or Z serial SOLID GOLD blue Sub, a watch you would cherish for life....a month or so ago, TRF trusted seller Perpetualman88, (I'm pretty sure it was him), had one up for just that. It was a GORGEOUS piece and I am still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on it. To see some beautiful pictures of what I'm talking about, you can go on his public profile and click on his thread starts...you'll get your socks knocked off!

A few diamonds doesn't make it over the top for me but solid gold is just a little over-the-top for my taste and age (32 years old)

I personally like the Daytona option. Scratches and all as they are easily taken care of, if need be. I'm very much dislike the watch pictured.

As for wearing it at your job, I believe 95% of the people out there (if not 99%) wouldn't recognize your watch even if it was a Day-Date with a meteorite dial. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of wearing your watch at work then don't do it but otherwise I don't see why you should resist!
Bingo!!!! Well said Carl.

Sorrry but not a fan of the sub with diamonds (not at all). Although I do love that TT sub with black bezel. I don't like the blue either. If you are dead set on diamonds, look at the Date Just II, it has a couple of diamond options.

My black Daytona is a daily wearer and I haven't had any major issues with scratches. A few scuffs here and there remind me it is getting good use and isn't anything that usually can't be addressed when it goes in for service down the road. I wouldn't rule it out.

I like the GMTII C stainless but I think the bezel is too busy. It takes away from the watch to me... all I see is those big numbers on the dial when I look down at the watch.

Other than the busy bezel I really like the black dial to the watch and the high polished center links.

I am (indirectly) in Sales too. I'm sure that some of our Customers don't like diamond dials (I don't wear one ) much the same way some of our Customers for sure dislike my jackets, ties or shoes. I live in China, and I can assure you that if I dressed in a Customer-pleasing local way, I would be instantly arrested, handcuffed and deported when touching down in any other country in the Western Hemisphere, and charged with utter lack of taste in the nearest Court of Justice.

What your Customers think should not be a major factor affecting your purchase, and I feel you are past that post already. You also show a good awareness to pass on your 3ct ring when the situation requires it. This should clearly not be a major factor in your decision, as I am sure you enjoy your diamond ring a lot, even if you don't permanently wear it.

I believe you should mostly consider (i) the economics of the decision. As some fellow posters have said, paying an additional 3.5K makes little economic sense. Rolex is making a huge markup on that, and I believe there are (wiser?) ways to spend your hard-earned money. Should you want to let go of the watch at a later stage, you will never get those 3.5K back. The rest of the watch will hold its value quite well, except for the shiny little buggers.....

And (ii), the fact that you fancy one of the older TT subs with a blue dial, which opens the door to an additional watch purchase in due course. I would personally get a far bigger rush from a second watch, than from that specific dial.

Another personal consideration (and I see my share of bizarre expensive gadgets here in China to contradict what comes next) is the fact that, as a fellow poster has stated, I would 90% believe it was a fake. So much for my limited Rolex expertise!

Ah and congrats on such a nice Boss. A keeper it seems.....

I've never been a fan of diamonds on a Submariner but on a more positive note, you did a great job of photographing the watch.

Kind of nuts to think you could get an Old Bluesy two tone with no holes case and a GMT II Stainless for the same price this Sub 2 tone with diamonds is.

Do that. You can wear the SS while working as it is a proper tool watch. Wear the TT while doing other things. Leave the 3 carat ring in the drawer; a TT Rolex Sub and a Tungsten ring is enough pizazz.

If diamonds delight you on a Sub, then I like this dial combo better than just the hour plots on a black dial.

I agonized for some time about whether to buy the ceramic bezel TT blue sub or its predecessor. Ultimately, I opted for the predecessor because I found the blue color of the ceramic bezel Sub to be way too bright blue. To me, the precedessor model's blue dial was darker, richer and more subtle. I found the curren one's blue to be way too bright and bold and yes, smurf-blue like.

The AD said Rolex diamonds are flawless and
Colorless, which is I guess why it is so expensive of an upgrade ($3,400) to get the diamonds.

Tool watches becoming jewelry is never a good thing IMO. I would never own a gold tool watch let alone one with diamonds. It looks ridiculous to me and only serves as something that screams LOOK AT ME I HAVE DIAMONDS! Of course, this is only my opinion.

My vote: TT GMT II ceramic - nice for everyday. Even the SS GMT.

To me sport watches and diamonds don't go...
