6536/1 Sub Circa 1956

I have not seen another vintage 50's Sub with a dial like mine. Specifically
the placement of the "Swiss" at the six o'clock position and no border around
the second indicators. Any info would be appreciated. Sorry about the crappy pics.

No it doesn't.

The dial has been re-redone/re-finished. Unsure if that is even an authentic dial plate to begin with.

It's a fake or a poorly done redial, sorry to say. I am unsure if any of the watch is authentic to be honest. Any photos between the lugs?

Agree, at least the dial is refinished (badly). Better pics of the case will help

The serial and model numbers are visable but worn and won't photograph. My Grandfather bought it new in 1956 and gave it to me in 2002 and yes I had it refinished
when he gave it to me. It was his eveyday watch, and he was an avid scuba diver and
swimmer so the "original" or "mint" condition ship would have sailed a long time ago as he would have had the watch maintained when needed. I don't care about re-sale value, I just enjoy wearing it. But you guys are saying they did a crappy job with the dial? I'm
pretty clueless I guess because I thought it looked good. Serial # 1552** Model 6536/1
Momement # DN679799 is the info from the watchmaker

And of course if I knew then what I know now would have left the dial alone. It had a really cool "ripple" through it.

Have a look at my post which I did a few days ago about 6536 project and info, the article there from Vintagehour is the best I came across about

Thanks Harry. I had it refinished 10 years ago.

Yes I sinned and had the dial refinished. It glows, but the hands are new and
they don't glow.

Can someone elaborate on why it was a "bad" refinishing job. I now know I
should have left it alone but did the RSC really do poor work?

There really is no such thing as a "good" refinished dial. Refinished is refinished, and that's about all there is to say. Whether it is a good impostor of the real thing or not is really of no matter to any true Rolex enthusiast or collector.

Should have left that dial alone. It would be worth magnitudes more today. The RSC doesn't refinish dials like that. They replace.

The RSC never touched that dial. It was done by an amateur. The text is crooked, too thick, and back the front in places.

Used to be the case but Rolex Geneva are totally rebuilding vintage models as of recently.....for a hefty price.

Shame the watchmaker who refinished your dial didn't inform you of what you had. That being said, if you don't care about resale and you enjoy the refinished look more, than wear your inherited watch with joy and pride!

Huh?? Then why did you ask in your original post above

if you knew you had it refinished - so naturally it isn't going to look like any other 6536 b/c whomever refinished it did it in his own style...
