Icon20 for him suggestions

hi guys, my wife and i are looking at a his and hers watch that we will buy in a few weeks time. she already made a choice of a lady datejust 31mm (steel/whitegold) black jubilee face with diamond indexes. in the jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel.

im quite a simple guy and never really liked diamonds on my watch but this will be my first black/darked face watch that i can somehow match with my wife. (most of my watches are ivory or white toned dials)

i have only two choices and i would like to hear your opinions if which one would you get if your wife has the watched i described above.

p.s. matching is not limited to same model only i just want a watch that would look aesthetically pleasing together with my wife's datejust.

1. submariner no date ceramic 114060 (pic from hodinkee site)

2. Date Just II smooth bezel black roman 9' marker 116300 (me wearing the watch)

thanks in advance.

As far as matching your wife's watch I think either would be suitable (they both say Rolex on the dial at the very least! ).

Personally, of the 2 choices, I like the look of the sub better.

DJII if it were me. As a whole, I am getting really sick of subs. I have one, and do love it, but I don't think it will ever be my daily ever again.

Unless I change careers and all of the sudden decide to follow my passion of marine biology, the sub will just stay for my heavy activity outings...

If the main criteria is matching pair, then the DJ, but if your think that Sub is considered a good enough match, Sub for sure.

Look forward to your matching pair post

DJ II is a better match. Get the Sub if it makes you want to wear it and the DJ II does not.

Matching the bezel on a DJ to hers might be worth considering if matching the watches is part of the whole iidea. The fluted really makes the watch special. The DJ II fluted is a lot of bezel, if you don't like it stick with the smooth, it goes quite well with the dial you selected.

I guess it depends on you and your lifestyle - but 8/10 times I'd say the Sub ND.

If you lean towards the DJII, I'd recommend checking out the black dialed stick markers, with the smooth bezel. IMO, it would better compliment your wifes black 31mm diamond dial.

I like the Submariner over the DJII every time. IMO, the bezel looks out of proportion.

If you want a diver's watch, I wouldn't recommend a Rolex dive watch - there are better alternatives on the market. The DJ would be a good match, the GMT IIc is similarly dressy, and is, in my opinion, the best all-round watch in Rolex's line up

You should make this your signature I'd go with the Sub! I love how simple the dial looks with no date.

I did matching watches for our anniversary. but with different brands of watches. So to make them special and match I wrote our initials on the case backs with our first initial of our last name in the center and larger, and surrounding it on either side our first name initials on either side of the centered larger initial. Does that make sense? Underneath that was our anniversary date. So it made is special for us even though they did not match per se. Just thought I would throw that out there.
