I have to agree. There is no watch quite like an heirloom piece no matter the model.

Jake, I have to ask....what does your Dad think about you spending more on that watch repair than he paid new? Some guys like him might think you were nuts. I guess he did buy it new? has he ever told you how he settled on the SD?

He didnt ask how much I spent and I didnt tell! He probably would think I was nuts. He did buy watch new. Not sure what they retailed for back in the day. Im guessing around a grand? Anyone know?

Im sure he decided on the SD because it was bigger and bulkier than his Tudor he had before. I guess this was an upgrade. Wish he would have kept the first watch.

Price 40 years ago...I would say less than half that give or take...maybe 450-550?

I wouldn't worry about that Tudor. Great watches, but with this in hand, no worries at all.

Probably less than that. My Dad bought a new SS GMT Master in 1970 for $250 and he could have bought it in all 18Kt for $500. I'd guess a SD back then was probably $300-350.
