Pens & flying

Hello everybody!

Though I have been participating in this nice Rolex Forum since some time now (usually in the General Rolex & Vintage Rolex sub forums) this is the first time I post something here.

I love Rolex and Pens, so from time to time I enjoy some reading here.

Now, I dare to make the following question here, and I appologize if this has been treated before, or if you consider it a "silly question".

I live in Argentina, and taking advantage that some members of my family are presently in the USA, and returning in a few days, I have bought some rather expensive pens and had them sent to their Hotel in USA, so they will bring me without the risk of shipping by mail.

Also, pens carried as personal belongings for travelers, are exent of customs duties down here, but if they are received through mail, I should pay a high import duty here. So you see the convenience of bringing them with my family.

This said, here is my question:

I wish my wife will be carrying the pens (5 or 6 big size fountain pens) within her purse or small cabin suitcase.

I prefer that, to shipping inside the checked baggage, as I am always concerned with the possibility of lost baggage, or someone taking objects from inside them. (I had both bad experiences before!)

My question is if there is any restriction in USA, to carry a pen or several large pens in the airplane cabin, both for domestic flights, or international flights, as my wife will be flying both before return home.

My question is in regards, some unconfirmed rumors, from other plane travellers, in regards, with some overcelous pre embarking checking officers, who regarded pens as "pointed objects" and didnīt allow them.
(May be they presumed the intention of someone wishing to hijack a plane at "nib point". )

May I ask my wife to travel with my several pens on her handbag, or will she have any trouble with them, and better put them inside the checked bag?

I appologize again if this sounds rather silly, but will appreciate your information and your experiences in flying with your pens.

Thank you for your attention, and best cordial regards, Abel.

Hi Abel. I fly in and out of the US every other week, always carry my pens with me and even taken a box of them for trade shows; never had issues.

Hope this help.s
