Jewelry store employee discounts?
Hi everyone,
Very curious if AD's usually give their employees discounts? I stopped by Jared's to take another look at the LV that I simply must have. And the guy helping me hinted that the employees do get some small discount, I always thought the prices were fixed for public and employees. Any thoughts/experiences? ![]() |

we do get them at discount. Every company will be different with their guidelines but Rolex allows 2 watches per life time at cost. Has to be same gender watches aka for yourself.

You will get a discount when you establish a relationship with your AD. Many times I
wanted to go the best buy way out, because it is human nature to gravitate to the best deal out there but sometimes that is not the wisest course of action and you get burned. But I can tell you this much buying from the AD and cultivating a relationship with them is rewarding in its own right because you have the power of the law on your side and you won't get burned. and each time you buy a piece from the AD they give you in fact a deeper discount to keep you coming back at least that is what my dealer has done and I have six watches that I have gotten in the past three years. |

My AD gives his employes dicounts on Rolex watches, but NOT on the SS Daytona. An employee of his has an SS Daytona, but also waited for it for some time.

Thanks for all the info! One of the reasons I was asking is that my local Jared is hiring help for the holiday season (Through mid January) and after 30 days all employees are eligible for promotions/discounts. So my salesperson was hinting that I should work P/T seasonal and they can put the watch on hold with a small deposit while I get my discount after 30 days.. but he couldn't go into details for obvious reasons.
I was mainly curious as to what % discount is most probable. ![]() |

Even if you got 10% is it worth working for them for the holiday period?

Fraser, seems like most on this forum get at least 10% off without having to work at a AD. It might be fun though for a few days, especially if you didn't need to push sales to feed the family. I would do it for one a cost, that would be sweet.

At cost.. absolutely! But no one around here is offering even 10% off the LV. If I can find some AD that will discount that watch, it would be mine!

I'd enjoy just being able to work with and sellig Rolex watches - the experience would be great.
Any extra discount above the norm - would be a bonus..... |

Mate the grass the is always greener on the other side.
We walk into fancy shops and kinda think how cool it would be to work with and around such cool items. But trust me, it aint that cool... Its just like any other job in most cases. I mean no disrespect to anyone who works in high end products etc Just from my own personal example, when i was in Law School i worked part time for a Boutique type place in Auckland that dealt with Giorgio Armani, Canali, Gieves n Hawkes, Gucci etc . Before applying i thought it would be so glamorous, but when i got the job and started working i realised its just like any other job, you have a boss above you, you got to take out the merchandise, you got to set up, cash control, till entry, packaging, end of day clearup. But this aint that bad, it gets worse... you WILL get sh**ty customers who think they are made of money and that you are their personal slave becuase they can afford to buy things that costs most peoples monthly salary ... I would rather work elsewhere, save up and drop the cash on the AD. I cant comment much on watch cost price but the "general rule" is 1/3. I.e. if you buy at $1, you sell for $3. Definitley at least 50% becuase my AD almost did 50% off the old tt gmt ii for me as he has one he wants to get rid off as its not selling. |
