Ceramic Bezel

Is ceramic a durable choice for a Rolex watch? Is it subject to breaking if dropped? If it breaks, can it be repaired?

Yes, durable as in more scratch resistance.
If it breaks, it can not be repaired.

It can be replaced. By the way if you drop a watch, the crystal can crack, the case can get dented so the bezel wouldn't be my first concern

Replacement is much bigger money than the aluminum inserts too btw

More scratch resistant, more brittle and prone to crack or shatter than Alumininum.

Replaced easily by RSC only for about 2000 USD on the steel models.

I should have added, I am certain it takes quite a whack to break one.

$2k i thought it was closer to half that, $1k-$1,200 range. Also, can't this be covered under an insurance policy?

Either way it's pretty steep especially in comparison to the aluminum bezel.

I replaced the scratched crystal for about $136 and the aluminum insert for $51. I would be worrying about the ceramic insert and bezel cost.

To add, I'm not sure where these ceramic figures for replacements are coming from, but you are looking at $400 +/- depending on where you are in the world!

Try and buy an LV aluminum insert on the grey market for less!

It's not that bad in AUS Toph....

Seems it depends on who and what you read. Some members have been told they need to replace the insert and bezel (BS), and others have the quote of just replacing the insert!
When you add a Gold Bezel replacement and insert, I'm sure that would run near the 2K mark, however, the bezel does not need to be changed unless the bezel ring is warped from impact....and for that, it would need one hard whack that I'm sure more is damaged than ceramic insert!

The ceramic bezel insert is around $404.00 at the local RSC over here.

The aluminum one costs $ 40.00.
