Used submariner availability...?
As an avid collector of watches I periodically check with dealers, watchbrokers and jewelery stores where they sell Rolex watches. The news I am getting from all of these contacts is consistent:
-Rolex submariners are hard to find, sub owners are holding them, or asking very high prices... -New Subs in the resell market are very scarce, vintage subs continue to increase in value. -Rolex GMTII-C 's are impossible to find in the resell market... For those who are selling submariners, old and new, the prices are increasing now... If true, this is a good sign for me, as I am mostly holding on to my submariners... I am curious if others agree...

Agree, yes.....nothing new Alan, this is the cycle of most, if not all Rolex sports (profesional)!
Either way, keep on holding on to your Subs..

I would doubt that a watch that has been mass produced for 50+ yrs, is hard to find. There are plenty of them around. BUT yes, the prices are going up accross the board on rolexes --- heck, even g-shoocks are getting on the "unaffordable" borderline for me...

Pre-owned Subs are quite easy to find, but as you stated, prices are moving up.

Subs seem to be one of the most common that come up for sale? They're aren't hard to find, but yes, they seem to command good prices ... which is a good think for owners!

I think they are easy to find and overpriced when compared to GMTs.
Just my thoughts. |

I've noticed less 16610 available and the prices are higher than expected.

This was the case in 1993 when i got mine, and has not changed. A tremendous amount of these second hand pieces are sent directly to Asia. But being that they are quite common they really are not that easy to find. Just don't buy from dealers.

I agree they are hard to come by on the street, but they sell them here every single day.

Walk down jewelers row in Chicago and youll find more Subs and GMTs than grapes in vineyard... Ok slight exaggeration. But they do maintain their value like others have said above.

Hold on to your subs..
Every spring there are 100.000 new buyers for Rolex watches entering the "pre-Owned" or New market - I'd say 60% of them want a Sub or a GMT of some kind....So demand and supply is at play big time. Wait untill a larger percentage of the young Chinese (now 0.01%) discover Rolex and the value magic behind the marque...then you'd see an explosion. Man... I am glad I became a trader... |

I was tasked to find a newer Sub LN for a good friend of mine recently and it wasn't as easy to locate a deal as it was about a year ago. Not sure about demand (not a seller), but it's a drier market lately for sure!

Subs were easier to find about 5 yars ago....on ADs windows and secondary markets. A bit harder to find them in both markets nowadays.

There seem to be plenty for sale here, almost every day there are one or more new listings, how that can be hard to find is beyond me,not to mention all the Submariners for sale on eBay each and every day.
There must be thousands of them for sale all over the world every day! |
