Convert a YM 16222 to blue dial?

I like the look of the soon-to-be-released blue dial stainless YM. However, I don't want to spend the money on a new one.

Could I buy a mint 16222 off of this forum, and get Rolex to change out the dials, by either buying the new blue dial from them, or buying the old model YM blue dial?

Any reason why I should or shouldn't do this? Would the new dial fit? Would it look substantially the same as the new one? I'm not concerned about resale.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't. I've actually had a related thought: I love the white dial with the black markers (on the yellow gold YM), but don't care for the YG case. If I ever got a YM, I'd like the SS and P case with the white dial. No reason you can't swithc out dials, espeically if you're not conerned with resale. I'd always keep the origional parts, so you could switch back anytime.

BTW, if there are any bored photo-shopers, some pictures of the possibilities would be great!

Call the RSC. Long story short, they let me change my damaged T/T black sub dial for the blue. It was being serviced so they only charged me for the parts.

Thanks. I understand the dials from Rolex are approx. $500. Anybody have any idea what they'd charge to do this switch? Or, if I sent it in for a service, would they just do it for free? A service is $1,000?

Anybody know a reliable source from which to buy a blue dial, if not Rolex? I can't imagine any 3rd party would have the new dials any time soon, but maybe I could get my hands on an older model (again, I assume they are exact same size and specs???).

Thanks again.

I spent $600 for the service, $500 for the dial, $51 for the bezel insert (it was a Sub), had it back in three weeks, and a week later had a two year warranty card from Rolex. I would go that route because Rolex would stand behind the change.

Thanks, that's great news. Now, on to a technical question: say I buy a watch from someone here, it's not under warranty (or can the warranty be transferred to me?). Will they still do the service, and I'll still get a 2 year warranty on the dial work they did?

EDIT: Scratch that. RSC Dallas just informed me they don't switch out YM dials (but she says they will switch out Sub dials??), nor can I buy a YM dial from them. Next question---can anyone recommend a good rolex technician from this forum who can help me source these parts, and who can make this change for me? Thanks

RSC would not do it. They will not fit a dial to a model that could not have came that way from Rolex originally. The 16222 never was available with a blue dial. The new 116222 with a blue dial is a different model and RSC will view it that way.

Thanks.

I guess back to the drawing board.

Will a blue dial from a YM 16223 fit into a YM 16222?

Anybody know someone who can source this (original Rolex) dial?

Anybody know someone who can do the work of putting the blue dial into the YM 16222?

I guess it will take a few years before you will get the chance to get a dial.

Not necessarily interested in the new blue YM dial with red; would be happy with an older YM blue dial.

Yes you are absolutely right. I hadn't paid close enough attention to detail; thanks for pointing that out. There goes that idea.
