Buying a Red Sub . . . . ALERT !

We'll I am still looking for a nice Sub at an adfordable price . . . like we all do I guess ?

So checking different sites and forums . . . I found this add

I am posting this just this to show that it isn't so obvious to look, find, buy and pay and thinking you did the right or best deal ever . . .

Pics of the watch that is for sale are included . . .

35xxxxx serial number so it should have a Mark III dial . . .

This one has a Mark II . . . . strange . . . (correct me if I am wrong)

This triggered an alarm for me . . .

After mailing and checking for hours suddenly the seller mentions that it has a replacement case . . .

That is stil possible.
Maybe the case wasn't waterproof anymore due to whatever reason so Rolex changed it during service or it was requested by the owner . . .

A second red alert goes of for me . . .

I asked for the correct serial number . . . . it has a 'unmarked' case according to the seller . . .

WTF is going on ?

Seller mails back that this watch has an original bracelet & movement . . .

Patina of dial matches the hands but the pics show a slightly different color . . .

Alarm 3 . . .

So to keep the story short, via a friend of mine I found the link where the fake parts where bought for building this Frankenwatch Sub. . . .

Dial, hands & case are all fake !

So TRF'ers watch out . . . a lot of people are selling . . . . crap for $$$$$

There are experts here that can help you . . . do it !

And pay them a beer for their help ;-)

HAGWe all

Great detective work.

Maybe you should post the seller info or a link to the ad as a warning?

Now a question for the experts :

Besides that you know by reading the post that it is a fake dial . . . where you able to notice it yourself ?

To be honest . . checking the pics the first time I wasn't . . .

No, and this is why I would need serious help. Too easy to get burned. Now as for the watch as a whole, my Radar came up quick.

Second hand looks a little long, could be the angle though.

Yes, the "660" looks closed and is the wrong font, and the "f" is totally in the wrong position under the "R" in Submariner.

Good catch!

Why don't you touch base with Eric, mike, Andrew, or Jacek? You may pay a little more but at least you know what you're getting. Otherwise, enjoy the hunt because when you do get what you want you'll love it even more!

That dial is horrible. It looks like it was printed on a laserjet.

This is the kind of thing that turned me off from vintage.

I DID at one point obsess about a red sub, but not anymore.

I researched and researched and found all kinds of things out in the net.

I want to be sure that what I pay for is what its worth, and with vintage...you never know.

Wow. I could never buy a vintage from anybody but a trusted seller on TRF... It is just way too risky if you aren't an expert! Nice catch

yeah that dial screams fake. You cna usually tell by the lume. That lume didn't turn that color. It was painted that color. The E on the case is long too. I beleive the whole watch is a fake with a Rolex movement.

Post the seller please so people are aware. Good detective work and thanks for brining it to our attention.

The whole watch is screaming fake at me..... buy the seller and then the watch. And a no quibble return period never hurts.

Shocking - they should be strung up.

To be honest, I wouldn't dream of buying a high-end watch - especially vintage - from anything other than a known and trusted seller (preferably someone who knows a lot more about them than I do). To do otherwise seems like madness to me.

The watch is counterfeit. The case is counterfeit and not manufactured by Rolex. To call it a "replacement" case is incorrect.
