Smaller than I thought
So I am still new to the world of haute horology, but after reading about Rolexes for a few months (mostly off this forum--thanks TRF!) i decided to stop by my local AD in Toronto.
I realized that the models that I was looking at (e.g. Explorer I and Air King) were a lot smaller than I imagined them to be! The salesperson and I both agreed they looked small on my wrist. Now, the reason I started this thread was because I spent most of my adolescence accepting the fact that I had small wrists (circumference of 6.95 inches to be exact). Do people who own these smaller-faced Rolexes have EVEN smaller wrists? (Would sure make me feel good about myself!) Or maybe the proportion of watch face-to-wrist that I have in mind is a little off? |

I wouldn't say that 6.95 is a small wrist and how it wears also depends on positioning IMO, some wear their watch closer to the hand others a bit further up their wrist. Look, size, fit, etc is an individual thing. Also a white face looks bigger than a black, so trial and error is my opinion.

this is my new lead for the "oddest thread". in a friendly sort of way....as i welcome you to the forum.... that said, if you spent most of your adolescence thinking about your small wrists.....i think you have a lot of catching up to do. and then you successfully make people with smaller wrists feel really good about themselves...... man, i have had some doozy posts (usually while pretty drunk)....but this one is ![]()

I have a 7.75" wrist and the Sub is about as small as I can go. I think photos are deceptive, the watches always look much larger. Try the DSSD or new Explorer. If you want larger still and haute horology (Rolex are great but not generally considered to be so) you may have to look elsewhere.

It's all relative and the answer depends on what your expectations are.
Fifteen years ago, I wore a 34mm watch, as did most men. Four years ago, I tried on an Air-King and decided the 36mm watches looked better, so I bought an Explorer 114270. The new AK has beefed up lugs and looks much better than before, even if the size is same. I now have the Explorer and a DJ 116200 and I consider neither to be too small for my 7.75" wrist. The 40mm Sub is just about my upper limit.

Your wrists aren't exactly "small." I've got about 6.5" and the 36mm Rolexes didn't look small on me. And I was surprised, but the 40mm Daytona didn't look big on me either. Both look just right for the proportions of the watch, case design, etc.

I thought the AK is 34mm and Exp is 39mm, so they should feel much different in size. My wrist is 7.25 and feel 39-42mm look the best on me... It just comes down to personal preferences.

I would agree with above. Trial and error. Go back to the ad and try on an exII, sub, gmtIIc and who knows what you may end up with

![]() ![]() I don't really know how to reply to this thread though, I must admit I always thought it was a matter of taste. No matter what's the size of your wrist you must buy a watch that you like and that fits you well in your opinion. And this comes from a man with 7" wrists who often wears a watch that has a 28.5mm case. ![]()

The first Rolex I ever tried on was a 36mm DJ, I was very surprised at how small it was, I ended up purchasing the 41mm DJ and I love the size, I'm not sure I'd go any larger. Even the ExpII at 42mm seems a little big for my taste and i'm 6'6" 240lbs with 7.5" wrists.
I love the 39-41mm range. For my next I think I'd like the GMTIIC (40mm) and then maybe an ExpI (39mm).

The 40mm Submariner looks and feels great on my wrist, but I want something significantly larger and different than my Tags, so I'm headed for a new dome (smooth) bezel Datejust II which is 41mm. |

I have a 6.25 wrist and I like sub 40mm watches. I wear an AK and a Speedmaster 39mm daily. I've had Planet Oceans and Seamasters and they seem fine once I get used to them. The 34mm AK fits me fine. It's all dial anyway.
Either way, buy what you like, not what the fashion police say. Sent from my using Tapatalk

My wrists are a small 6.75" and the 36mm DD looks in perfect proportion on my wrists. My sub, Daytona, GMT etc all fit perfectly well too. But AP RO's, although the case is a great size, the bracelet isn't flexible enough for me to feel that it's a perfect fit, and the ROO's, well, forget it! Ditto the IWC Portuguese 7 day, it's just too big! Lots of watches that I lust after just won't fit me, but luckily there are lots of others that I lust after that do fit me well!

Monte Cristo is right on, its a lot about how its sits on your wrist, I have a IWC calibre 67 in a 42mm case, it sits real snug on my wrist and a 39 mm Ball watch I owned felt like a rock.

When trying on the watch, if you can see a bit of band above and below the face, then it's not too big for your wrist.
