I want to see the time at night...

I'm going to change my Rolex Submariner for Panerai because I can not really see the time at night and especially when I'm driving is a problem. I like the black dial .. are all bright at night or only Luminor models? I do not want to have the same problem I have now with my Sub.
Thanks guys..

A friend just saw my 372 and told me the exact same thing... His Sub is "lousy" when it comes to luminova qualities... But from your pic I can see the Sub just fine! I have NEVER owned a Sub, and never will, but my 372 does light up at night :)

The Super LumiNova used by OP and the Chromalight used on "newer" Rolex models are certainly on par. "Subs" have been around for quite some time so we have no clue what kind of lume yours uses.

Let's assume you have a relatively new Sub; in this case, it's a question of quantity vs. quality (quality being on par). I would recommend that you look into a PAM model that has all four numbers (3-6-9-12) because the surface-area of the numbers is larger and of course instantly recognizable. I'm not a big fan of say, the 359, but it might just be the best PAM for you...

Otherwise, a "base logo" is you best bet:

Yeah, get rid of the Sub, shame you car doesn't have a clock, must be an old one ;)
A PAM will light the way.

Cheers

Panerai dials are larger and generally more simple. My 45mm 190, a radiomir, is easily the most legible night or day watch I've owned. My advice is to go 44mm or larger with an uncluttered dial.

PAM's have excellent lume, especially the sandwich dials.

Which sub model is it, a 16610...? I don't think that one uses the newer chromalight (blue) so Takuya's comparison is probably accurate enough for your needs. Keep in mind that any kind of photo-luminescent paint needs to be charged and of course that charge will be dissipated over time (5~8hrs). Here's a comparison of several watches using Super LumiNova. After some time, they all can only be read in relatively total darkness...

LumiNova AG's Super LumiNova, compared on watches from three different Manufactures...

30s exposures @f/8; Please note that all three are visible down to the 30min mark;
If you cannot see them, your monitor may need adjustment.

I find the sausage dials have a better lume than the sandwich dials. I'd recommend the 000.
