New to Rolex

My Rolex hasn't even arrived yet, but I perused these forums a bit to inform me while buying.

I picked up a 1999 Explorer II. I got it for $2850 which seems like a good deal compared to the $3400-$3700 I've seen most places. I have a few questions, newbie style:

- This watch was the most I wanted to spend. I'm a professional, but generally speaking I like to wear a watch that works in both professional and more casual settings. I wanted a great general purpose watch, and thought ExII was gorgeous. Do you guys think I overestimated its appropriateness for a professional/office setting?

- As soon as the watch arrives I'll of course want to have it checked over. What are the steps I need to do? Just take it to a reputable watchmaker?

- Anyone have any good suggestions for how I can find the most reputable folks for this kind of work in my area? I'd like to meet someone not just to inspect this watch now, but also for to meet my watch repair/service needs long into the future.

And, um.... Hi!

Welcome! IMHO the Exp II is about perfect for any occasion or condition. Well done.

As for your servicing needs, since you're in Chicago may as well take advantage of your own backyard,

Well you can't go wrong with getting an authorised Rolex service.
Otherwise there should be Rolex qualified watchmakers in your neck of the woods. It might be a matter of asking around used quality watch dealers in your area as to who they might recommend. lDo your homework on them in terms of experience etc.
Maybe some guys here can tell you whether they would vouche for a particular watchmaker you might like to name.

Great to know, that's a short walk from my office. Thanks much.

I'll post the crappy pics from the sale and the description of the item. Prettier pics to come once it arrives. Yes, I know the dangers of buying online.

Description:

1999-2000 ROLEX EXPLORER II, MODEL #16570, AUTOMATIC

Lightly used and authentic Rolex Explorer II watch in mint condition. There are no dents or scratches. The dial is black and original. The crystal is beautiful. The hands and markers illuminate perfectly and are also original. The case is 42mm including the crown and is original and free of dents and scratches. The crown is marked Rolex and still shines like new. The bracelet has little stretch and is also original. All 13 links are included. It is also free of dents and scratches. Prior to purchasing it in May, the watchmaker took the bracelet off, so the numbers have been validated against the original papers.

Also included is the original receipt. The watch was completed serviced prior to being purchased. The dealer also included a 2 year warranty, which covers any mechanical issues. It keeps excellent time and will make a great addition to your Rolex collection.

Below is a summary of what is included:
Rolex Explorer II with black dial
Inner and outer boxes
Purchase receipt
Authentic Rolex papers
Original booklets and Rolex tags
All 13 links
