Omega Speedmaster Date Chronograph

I went to watch store today, and salesman offered me this:
Omega Speedmaster Date Chronograph, just like the one on the pics.
I don`t know anything about this watch(exept that it is probably a Valjoux 7750 movement inside it),I don`t know it`s age(condition of it is not exactly mint, but quite fair)...
And price looks fair enough, around 850$!
The thing that bothers me is that this watch obviously don`t have sapphire crystal glass(there are one or two little scratches on it),and salesman claim that production date of it is around year 2000.How can it be?
I would apreciate any opinion on this watch and,of course,I would like to know real production date of this model!

Please guys,help me with this.

I believe this watch should have a sapphire crystal, but even SC's can be scratched.

Congrats! It is a great timepiece!

I had that model with the black dial. It is a sapphire crystal.

Also it is a 7750 movement, very reliable.

Excellent watch, no doubt.

Best,

Chris

Solid reliable watch, that's for sure.
However, that bracelet was discontinued WAY before 2000.
That style was used/introduced on the Speedmaster Pro from 80's till mid 1990's, so either that watch is older than 2000, or it has an incorrect bracelet.
Looks like a model 1479 to me. If that's the case, then that style was used from around 1991 till 1995.

Also, is there a way you get get a model number? That watch does not look right to me. Between the octagon crown (which I have only seen on the day date model), the date window that is shaped like no other Date model I have ever seen and the somewhat odd fitting of the bracelet around the lugs... I'd be scared to buy that watch. I'd want serial numbers... model numbers...

Get the model number if you can.

Thank you,Chip!
I`m not sure in origin of that watch either,so I think I`ll pass.
If I could get serial number of it,I`ll post it here.
Thanks to you all, guys, you`ve been very helpful!
