My wife can speak perfect Spanish and English, she probably speaks more Spanish during the day than English. I can hold my own but don't like to speak it so much. My Son knows it ok but would never speak it. He met our own Rafael, (Figbo), don't know if he spoke it with him or not. My daughter does very well, in fact it was her first language until 3 years old. Funny, she is blue eyed and blonde headed and has a complete Irish name first and last.
Your wife and kids are so lucky to be bilingual! My (ex)sister in law is fluent in Spanish as well,(from her mom), and she is blonde, blue eyed with a german first and last name! (She is also fluent in german and french ; She can go pretty much any where in the world and communicate well)
Wind wise we are expecting 60-90 kph winds tonight- thats pretty windy for us!!

Wife can also converse in Portuguese and Italian. They are both close enough to Spanish that she can converse with the people. There are a lot of Portuguese speakers here, not so much Italian. Cannot write it but can read it. She want to learn French. My guess is that she will eventually take classes.

One side of my family comes from Yamaska, Quebec.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaska,_Quebec

Pretty sure they speak French there. I always thought it might be fun to ride up there and see it but then after about 1/2 an hour I'd probably get bored since I can't speak the language.

Bill,

Outside of Montreal the majority of Quebecers speak French. I must say I noticed it as soon as I started walking around Trois-Rivières, therefore I'm pretty sure people from Yamaska do speak French a lot.

EDIT: Forgot to add that it is quite the interesting story! You should definitely come over someday but warn me first, we must have a good cup of coffee together and talk about our Peters (boy do I not want this to be quoted out of its original context...).

Hey Bill- how are things going for you? Wind still blowing hard in RI?
Yamaska is kind of close to Trois- Rivieres - you could stop off there- pick up Carl, who could translate for you, and have some really good food,( french cuisine )

Doing good. Wind is howling and rain is sideways. So far so good. Could be much worse.

My English? Goodness, with that accent of mine I never thought somebody would tell me I'm good...

You have to speak English if you want to work in Montreal, it is an absolute must as there is a lot of anglophones. When I started to work at the store I work at today I could barely speak English, I was absolutely terrible and had to practice a lot in front of my customers to speak the way I speak today. I still make mistakes but it's nothing compared to how bad I was a few years ago.

Good morning Carl- well all that practice has paid off big time...as I had mentioned, being able to function in more then one language is a real blessing!
ps- that accent of yours can "win friends and influence people"- it has such a warm, suave tone to it!

This is an area I am not very familiar with but I would imagine if the dyed water(How soluble is the dye in water?) can be taken up through the root system(which it should) it would translocate throughout the whole plant and eventually end up in the flowers. But the color would not be as strong in the potted plant's flowers as just the cut flowers in water.....

That's funny though because my German teacher at University used to show us (obviously) how to pronounce words properly but she would often say "guys, don't forget though, if you say those words with your French Canadian accent the ladies are going to melt"!

I'm afraid I'm not on Instagram Dawna, is there any way you could possibly show us the picture on the forum?

Carl, I might post a screenshot later...I don't like to put any 'good' photos here in a bigger file size because they get stolen so often, unfortunately. Not by forum members, of course, but because of how forum entries can pop up on Google searches, etc. anywhooo

Hi Dawna! Unfortunately I'm not on Instagram either; but congrats on your photo being used!!I'd love to see your other polar bear pics- even if they aren't the better ones...I think any shot of a polar bear in it's natural habitat- taken by someone we know, would blow me away!

Hey Carl! how was school today? Did you get any wind? We had a very blustery monday night- but no damage; in fact a good chunk of our leaves were blown onto the neighbour's lawn! That worked on our favour!

I guess the old saying is true, we can always find someting positive in life...

School was great, I finished my vice yesterday but worked a little bit more on it today as the corners weren't round enough for the teacher (it wasn't bad though, he told me it was perfect otherwise). I also finished my wheel's teeth (more or less, I did the part that had to be done in this class but must wait for another class before I can solder the brass patches and cut new teeth out of them), I also had my horology history exam today and I think it went pretty well!

Tomorrow I am going to start working on my watch movement's part. I need to make this one twice: one as a practice and one as my exam. The part will be cut and filed in steel and must work properly at the end, I'm looking forward to working on that one!

P.S.: I already started a thread about it but thought I would share it with my great friends from the Coffeeshop...I love it!

P.P.S.: There's also this...I don't know why but it always makes me think of Leo...

The top is made of 10kt gold and the tooth has been cut in a Tiger Eye stone.

Hey Carl- your watch is a -Cauny? Was that an independent manufacture?
Its amazing! The tiger eye pendent is lovely to- and suits you!
I'm just thinking that another amazing jewel for you would be an insect,(preferably arachnid) in amber!

What would that look like in a pendent!

Yes Michelle, it is a Cauny but I don't think it's an independant watchmaker, rather I believe it might just be a smaller and relatively unknown brand.

Thank you very much for the good words regarding the pendant! I found it on Ebay, it was actually an auction that started at a quite low price and I was the only bidder so I won!

Apparently it's a vintage pendent but I wouldn't be able to tell how old it is...

As for that spider in amber, I'm sure it would make a lovely one (or a ring, what do you think? ).

Thank you Dawna!

By the way, you need a photobucket, flickr or such websites' account if you want to send me a picture by e-mail, otherwise it won't work!
