I'm kicking myself... hard this past year after buying my Explorer! I now wish that back in '97 instead of the Omega Seamaster I bought I should have thrown in an extra $1000 and bought a Rolex Sub or any Rolex instead... and the display case was right beside the Omega's.

you can get a nice planet ocean or seamaster from omega for that price.
the biggest thing driving the price from all brands seems to be in house movement... |

Deals can still be had! I bought a 5512 with the correct bracelet, last year for $1500.00. It was running but about 5 minutes slow per hour. I sent it to RSC in New York for a complete service. A new crystal, crown & Tube, and movement service had it running again. Keep your fingers crossed!

In the last year I got: A 16800 matte with bracelet, service history unknown for 3500. It was lost in the Bahamas. Replaced it with a 16800 matte with bracelet fir $3650. Serviced before the sale and loses 2 secs. A day A 1680 white all original with original bracelet that was serviced right before sale for $4 k. Looses 4 secs a day.

Most of us have gone down the same path and bought an omega or two before seeing the light and switch to Rolex :)

I remember back in 2000 when I bought my 1680 "Red" Sub for $3,000 and you could get good 5513's for $1,500 - $2,000. I wish I had bought a truck load.

Don't buy a Rolex Sub just for the sake of owning a Rolex Sub.
Paying 2k will get you a crap watch. It will be in bad condition and need a servicing (which in this case could cost you half the value of the watch). You can get some good watches for 2000 so I suggest you either save up another 2k or go for one of them. |
