Ti vs. Steel 44mm

I'm getting the bug for a brown dial PAM so I'm considering a PAM 240 titanium. But I can't find any specs on how heavy it is. Does anyone know what the weight difference is between a steel and Ti 44mm? Any opinions on the Ti PAMs? These don't seem to be liked as much as the steel versions.

I prefer steel - the weight and the look

The 390 is a 44 mm steel Luminor with a brown dial

Titanium more fitting for other brands?

I Love titanium watches...i have an AP RBti and jlc dbs both in titanium which I really like.
My brother has a jlc sub in titanium - love that as well...had a pam 202 in titanium - it was awesome.
For most brands Im always put off by too shiny cases, markers or combination of.
But I cant seem to get around 44mm panerais in titanium; they are a bit dull for me(first pam was a 176 in titanium) Remeber that the tabacco dial is already a bit dull...so the polished case with touch of gold hands make the 390 my choice - I would definately get the 390 over the 240

351 is worth a look if considering a 44mm titanium.
After comparing it side by side with the 312 I actually prefered it over the SS.

Ti is less "blingy", which helps on those occasions where you don't want your watch to draw too much attention. True..a PAM is already attention-grabbing, but Ti helps to tone that down a little. At least that is what I'd like to believe

Ti weighs less than SS for sure, and you do momentarily notice the difference in weight when you first strap a Ti piece on after the SS piece. However, we are talking about differences in weight of tens of grams, which most people will grow accustomed to after a couple of minutes on your wrist. I have a 47mm SS, 44mm Ti and a 47mm bronze in my collection and the difference in weight between these pieces don't bother me at all after each piece has spent some time on my wrist.

its a lot lighter..you'd really have to try one on and see if its for you. i sold my Ti pam because of the weight issue. I prefer a heavier watch..

Agree with this.
I was tossing up the 351( which I prefer to the 240 due to no cyclops) and 312, but actually found the 351 much lighter than expected.
This is fine if that is what you want.
All I am suggesting is that going to an AD and actually testing them out helped a great deal- before then it was all hypothetical.

I found Ti to be too dull for my liking and polished SS to be too flashy, so, I ended up with a brushed SS case/polished bezel.

I prefer steel :)
Except for the 305 which is good with titanium because it's big. If it's steel it would be very heavy..

I have a 351 - adore the look and for me its one of the most attractive PAMs, however, I must admit that it gets next to no wrist time simply because I really find the lack of weight disappointing every time I put it on. Looks stunning but I just can't get around this fact. Late last year I was lucky enough to be bought my choice (to a budget) of watch by work as a ten year gift - initially I desperately wanted a 305..... then felt the weight and went for a 243 instead...no regrets!
As always, it's a matter of personal taste but if I want the size of Panerai then (to me) I want the weight as well!

I have had a few 44mm luminor i both SS and Ti. And my latest is a 112 in SS.

I do prefer SS because of the polished SS finish gives me more of a old-school feel of the watch.

I think the Ti 44mm (176) was very comfortable And I like how the metal feels in the hand.

its really a personal preference

I have a 177 and love it. The weight is really nice and I think muted ti-grey looks better with the face than a polished case. Totally personal preference though. I would never not consider another PAM if it were steel.

Honestly, I say skip both and go Bronzo!

Although Ti is a very hard material its hard to fix the dings & scratches. Very easy to smooth out dings on alum & stainless. Scotch pad green for the brushed alum and the ol' cape cod cloth for the stainless. It all depends on what you like.

You need both. Titan is for me more like a toolwatch and steel is more bling bling.

It is very difficult, both are stunning.

Have had some super cool Ti PAMs, fave was the 57 C but like others have stated for me I just always prefered the SS for the look and weight that it carries.

I've had both, I like the lighter weight of the titanium and could wear it a little more loosely. However, once it got a little dinged up I switched my vote to steel. 5 minutes with a cape cod cloth would have taken out the mark if it was a polished steel bezel ring, but I didn't want to mess with a fiber pen. I've heard mixed reviews.

Thats what scared me away from TI, for my first pam i was torn between the 177 and the 111, and opted for the 111 just for that reason

I just got a used 176 which the AD cleaned up very nicely. I like the look, and the lighter weight. I have no issue with a fiber pen should the need arise. And I have total confidence in my AD since their watchmakers have great experience, are accessible, and obviously kow how to deal with titanium.

That said, I also have SS Panerai (polished bezel and brushed case) and enjoy that combo as well.

I am enjoying the 176 immensely.....
