This guy's asking us to Stop Wearing Panerai

Oh my god. I just came across this post http://uk.askmen.com/fashion/mens-wa...g-panerai.html that asks us to stop wearing Panerais.

First it offends almost everybody by saying we know nothing about watches and that from that point we should be considering real things like A. Lange & Söhne and so on. What a prick!

Last month I went to a Rolex AD here in the city, to buy a SubC and I didn't realise it first but the person that took my order was the owner, he was a nice man, and he was using a PAM. I asked him and he showed it to me, he was using a 1950 10 days GMT. Then I went to the website of the store and I realised he was the owner (family business), and that Watch Store is more than a hundred years old that survived the war after a bombing in 1943. That guy sells A. Lange & Söhne too.

The guy is an arrogant, condescending tw&t. Having said that, I'm not into Panerai. But anyone who is so stupid as to criticise others for not having a personality and in the same lame article stating that these watches were 'cool five years ago' is a hypocrite and a fool. And only if you're Italian!? That's like saying only German people can drive a Porsche, or Swiss; wear a Rolex (or myriad other brands). I'm sure Mr Cool McQueen would have something to say about that. If it was indeed cool five years ago, it still is. Most people and things that were truly cool five years ago, still are today. This idiot is bereft of personality himself if he subscribes to fickle trends. Cool people set the trends he likely follows, and are already doing something else by the time he's latched on. I doubt he has had an original cool idea in his life.

Well, he does call himself the 'Watch SNOB'. Snobs often have ludicrous, arrogant opinions so he's living up to his name. Who cares what he thinks?

I think the Watch Snob articles can be pretty funny, best not to take them too seriously.

Panerai has been called a fad for at least the past 10 years. Doesn't mean it's true, as the huge online community will attest.

Every so often someone finds an article by the Watch Snob and posts it on the forums (especially this one).

I personally enjoy reading his articles, because his personality is so obviously exaggerated (or even fabricated). He does know a lot about watches, but I'm almost certain that the ones where he trashes a brand or the people who wear it are meant to cause a stir in the forum community.

Panerai makes great timepieces that are distinctive, simple and beautiful. Even models with modified ETA movements… the history, design and evolution of Panerai is unique in the watch world. Now that they are doing more and more in-house, they are paving the road ahead for their brand. I think Bonati is a genius, and despite what the Watch Snob says I think Panerai is doing very interesting things.

I don't have a drop of Italian in me and I can rock a PAM all day long!

Yes, I got that, but I think he should call himself something else! BTW, I don't care what he thinks, and, as I said, I don't like Panerai much anyway. I just think he's a plonker.

He is well known to stir the pot every now and again. Take it with a pinch (bag) of salt. I think deep down he would love to have a Panerai, but he has a 4.5" wrist and can't pull it off. That's all.

Btw - get yourself a Lange.

I think those articles are funny! He offers outlandish answers for effect! Who would read him if he was serious and liked everything. Most of us read his blog for a laugh. Not to be taken too seriously, at least I do not!

I don't personally own a Panerai but I do see the value in the brand. I've been tempted to purchase one and may in the future. I think that the brand definitely has some staying power. I think there is and will continue to be a market especially here in the US for larger watch. Not saying larger in terms of 48mm jumbo tron pieces but the 44mm or less market I think is there and will continue to be there. Heck I just bought an Explorer II isn't that 42mm .....

Oh and forgot to mention the watch 'snob' is doing just what he is meant to: being a snob!
