Help deciding new watch

I know most think these posts are silly and I see many of the "get whatever sings to you" but I really need help on this one.

After having bought a midsize ballon blue for my wife as an early christmas present, I have decided to purchase my first cartier watch to add to my modest collection (Sub c (date), 39 mm explorer 1 and an old raymond weil (W1) on a black leather strap). After spending many hours looking at cartier's watch collection when making my wife's purchase, I have come to appreciate the looks and elegance of cartier's line-up despite their possible shortcomings (fashion watch, movements, etc).

I have narrowed it down to two watches (SS Calibre on Bracelet (42mm) or Santos 100 w/ Yellow Gold Bezel (38mm)). I have found both watches locally and can get them for about the same price (few hundred dollar difference).

I appreciate both of these are very different watches and my thoughts/concerns with each are as follows:

1. Calibre:
*Cons - another SS watch on bracelet (already have two SS rolexes in my collection), date aperture is a little weird and takes getting used to, new model watch and unsure how it will do in market, chrono version coming in 2013 looks awesome.
*Pros - another good all-around watch which I can use in the office, sport, pool, etc., bracelet is convenient and won't require replacement in a year or two, in-house movement, unique looking face.

2. Santos:
*Cons - strap will need to be replaced from time to time, I don't wear brown shoes/belts often so may need to replace strap with black strap asap (not sure how the black strap will look with the yellow gold though??), would need to be more careful as it is on strap (i.e. no gym, pool, shower), rather plain looking watch (no date, etc.), movement is nothing special.
*Pros - very different to anything I have now (square case), only watch I would have with yellow gold features, I only have one other watch with a strap, seems more elegant and would go well with suits (which I wear about 2 times per week).

I'd go with the Calibre de Cartier. Looks a lot better and more versatile than the Santos IMHO; the date feature is something I like; and I'm not a fan of two tone watches.

Not a fan of either. First looks nicer IMO...

I've had the Roadster and Santos 100. I prefer the Calibre.

Of the 2, I would go Calibre.

Good luck!

Like you said-- another ss watch-- would make the Santos my choice. Its' a complete change of pace. IMO, the brown strap looks sharp, but it's made for the black gator.
