Rolex 1503 Oyster Perpetual Date, solid 14k yellow gold, with box, excellent
Rolex model 1503 Oyster Perpetual Date in very nice condition
--Serial number 2462xxx dates the watch to 1968 --Case, bezel, dial markers, crown and back are solid 14k yellow gold --Officially certified chronometer grade 1570 movement --Width of case: 34.5 mm without crown, 37mm with crown --Length of case: 42mm from lug end to lug end --Depth of case: 11.8 mm --Lug width: 19 mm --Water resistant to 100 meters --Fluted gold bezel --Gold crown and dial markers This is a genuine, all original, never tampered with officially certified chronometer Rolex. The case, bezel, back, crown, and dial markers are solid 14k gold. The watch is a man's model, but today's styles have transformed this watch into an eminently wearable timepiece for both men and women. It would make a terrific gift. Every watch aficionado should own a solid gold Rolex at least once in their lives. I never wear it, so I've decided to let someone else enjoy it. It's not doing me any good sitting in a watch case with the umpteen other watches I never wear. I purchased this watch earlier this year. It was in excellent running and physical condition then, and is in the same condition now because I've taken very good care of it and have worn it only three times for brief periods. It has been in a watch case in a closed cabinet the rest of the time. It performs flawlessly and looks great on the wrist. No imperfections worth mentioning. Like all solid gold jewelry, there are very minor hairline scratches that can easily be polished out...IF you're willing to give up the gold that the polishing will remove. I have not polished this watch. In its present condition the watch is beautiful. I can't find any marks on the original Rolex acrylic crystal (which was polished by the previous owner). The dial, hour markers and hands look pristine. The crown is also in wonderful condition. The beautiful bezel is fluted. The perpetual (automatic) movement is a caliber 1570, with 26 jewels, temperature corrected, position corrected, with a sweep center seconds hand, and a date display that snaps forward nicely when midnight comes around. Just the slightest shake will start the watch going. The automatic winding mechanism is extremely sensitive. The movement is non-hacking. After giving it a couple of days of non-stop running (to settle it in after not being wound for quite a while) sitting on my desk it now runs consistently at the rate of approximately +/- 1 to +/- 3 seconds per 24 hours. It's been running at this rate consistently now for several days. The previous owner informed me that the watch had been "recently" serviced. Based on its acccuracy and what looks like some hard to read watchmaker's scrawlings on the inside of the case back, I believe that the watch has indeed been serviced, but I can't say when. The crystal has the hallmark Rolex magnified lens. The case back screws on an off. The crown sets the time and date smoothly and accurately, screws down tight, and screws out smoothly. I did not use a metal case back opening tool on this watch. Instead, I used a small soft air filled ball (available on eBay) that cannot scratch or damage the case back to remove the back and take photos of the movement. Included is a good quality, like-new expandable Speidel U.S.A. gold colored bracelet that will fit wrist sizes of approximately 6.50" to 9.50" in a pinch. The spring bars are new. As a free bonus I will include a pre-owned, but in good condition, deBeer Europa "Baby Croco Grain Handcrafted" strap in 20mm width (will fit this Rolex even though the watch's lug width is technically 19mm) with a genuine gold plated Rolex buckle. If the strap and buckle will not be used, the new owner could easily sell the genuine Rolex buckle, with or without the strap. Also included (all in excellent condition) is a Rolex inner box, outer box, Rolex Oyster instruction booklet, cleaning cloth, and tag. No "papework" is included. I'm selling it for $2,200. I could dance the usual dance and ask for $2,450 and play the offer counter-offer game. Instead I'm offering it at what I consider a bargain price and will accept slightly lower offers only if it does not sell relatively quickly. Will accept PayPal if you pay the 3% fee. Also USPS money order or certified check. No bank wires. I have 100% positive feedback on eBay (over 500) since 1997 (under cga) and have bought and sold several watches on other watch forums (not this one yet). My reputation is much more important to me than money. I believe in the Golden Rule. This is a beautiful watch that should be worn and enjoyed. I don't think you'll find another 1503 in this condition, at this price, very easily. Please contact me at cgalny at hotmail dot com. Shipping to the U.S.A. is included. Shipping to Canada will be additional. No other international shipping, please. Thank you. |
