Would you buy from Melrose Jewelers online?

Hello, I'm new here and am making my first Rolex purchase. The official website shows several Florida dealers, Mayors, Tourneau, and others. When I go to the dealers website they do not list Rolex as a brand they carry. Mayors has some pre-owned listed. Melrose Jewelers comes up near first on a Google search of dealers, but it appears to be an online only retailer. Does anyone here have any experience with them? The prices look very good, I usually check prices online before I go in person. Do the dealers negotiate on price, or stick to retail, or is that forbidden? I can afford what I want but I want the best deal.

Melrose has a fairly questionable reputation. Doesn't sound like the finest place to make your purchase.

I was in mayors last night in Orlando

they had a pretty good selection of new Rolex's, tried on a no date sub and a milgauss. The salesguy was actually pretty knowledgable which suprised me.

The Ad will neg. on price for models that are not in high demand!!! Go to a store and build a solid relationship and it will pay off in the long run, or buy from one of the reputable sellers here on this forum!!!

For a first Rolex, my advice is always go with an authorized dealer. You pay more money but you worry less about authenticity and maintenance. Once you know more about Rolexes, you can dabble in the grey market.

That being said, I've bought from Mayors and they have given me very good service. Tourneau's, at least their smaller branches, I have never had good service. Avoid Melrose.

No, I definately would NOT! Spoke to them before and they didn't always give me straight answers. Got the impression that they were shady. Oh, and they are overpriced after doing more research.

Thanks for the feedback

I'll check out the Mayors this week. Is there a price guide online? I am thinking of a plain jane Datejust in stainless, not sure if the Datejust 2 is a new model.

I'm real scared about buying a used submariner online also. I always seem to find ripoff artists.

I would have to agree with everyone... Stick to an AD. As to the discount, you should be able to get a discount even on SS. Go to a few AD's and one may say no discount and another will...Keep shopping till your satisfied

The DJ2 is new and may not be at your local AD as of yet. swissluxury.com has current prices.

Look for a JR Dunn. A sales rep told me quietly that they will discount when I was in looking at Rolexes. However, I have no personal purchasing experience with them. I have at Mayors in Boca Raton. There is no negotiation with them. Buy it at their price or leave it. They won't get any more of my business.

I'd forget Melrose. There are others that have a better reputation.

I'll agree with this....... Melrose intentionally spams the bandwith with their questionable advertisements and advice, usually copied from elsewhere, just to get their name to come up often.... they are not an AD..

Authentic Authorized Dealers that you mention, cannot, by contract, advertise or sell over the Internet, so you will not see them advertise for Rolex... You have to call or go there to see the selection..........

I stopped by Mayors today. They had an Air-King that caught my eye. It was stainless steel with a fluted white gold bezel. I was quoted $5150. Is this a good deal? Is there a retail price list online for the different models? Thanks in advance.

My first choice would be a Rolex AD. Most ADs are willing to discount, if you have done your research well and stay firm on what you are willing to pay, as long as it is reasonable and ends up in win-win for both you and the AD.

If you want a bigger discount, you could buy from some very reputable sellers at TRF. I am not 100 % sure how Rolex warranty works with TRF sellers.

STAY AWAY from THEM!

I didn't know much about Rolex a while back and purchased one from there. I spent over $6000 and ended up with an old (1970s) piece of junk. I checked the serial and model number and realized that the watch was older than I was. It consisted of mostly after market knock off pieces such as the bezel, bracelet, dial, diamonds etc. I was very dissapointed and felt dooped. I sold the watch for $2000.

They are currently being sued by Rolex and the outcome will be interesting as it can bankrupt their little fraud operation.

Have a look at what this guy has to say about them:
