Pictures, comments, questions
Continuing to learn new things about Rolex everyday from these forums. I wanted to share a few pictures of a modern classic, my daily wearer, and my brother-in-laws vintage piece that I was hoping some of our experts might be able to shed some light on.
I am looking for something a little more formal for my next purchase (which might not be for some time ~6 months or so). I am really thinking Milgauss GV, though I haven't ruled out the new Datejust II. I definitely want to go with a darker face as I already have two white faced watches. I would be interested to hear people's take on the Milgauss as a dressier watch. I know ultimately hardcore collectors are going to say you need a Patek on alligator or JLC but those just aren't my type. To that end, the Cellini collection is out as well. I don't wear a tuxedo often but since I won't be in uniform much longer, I wan't something that looks good with a suit or just a shirt and tie. |

I think the DJII is an absolute stunner and it goes in any setting. Lots of dial options too.

I love the milguass. It is a beautiful watch. It really depends on what speaks to you though. Try them both and one will stand out.
Btw, nice pics of your watches so far

DJII, or 'new' Explorer I - both look good w/ black dial, leather (tux) or bracelet (sport). The DJ is pure class, Explorer I is a sub-radar sleeper that dresses up well! Happy New Year!

I really never considered the Explorer in there as well. Not a bad option. I like the clean dial. I think the only draws backs for me are that I want something a little different from my sport models. The stick hands and PCLS of the DJII and the Milgauss are definite selling points for contrast. I will however try on the Explorer though because you never truly know until it is on your wrist.

I would opt for the DJII to serve as the dressier option.
At first glance, from a distance, the Milgauss might fit the bill, but on closer inspection I think the lightning bolt hand detracts from its austere pretensions. I still think of it as a less formal watch. Mind you, I'm also someone who wouldn't hesitate to wear a sub with a suit! |

Can't go wrong either way. Neither are "dress" pieces, so, dress up/dress down is easy. DJII if you want the date, GV if you want something different. Good luck with the choice!

Remember, the Milgauss is a bit thicker, and doesn't offer a date complication. My vote is for the DJII, in black baton dial, smooth bezel. The black dial and smooth bezel sort of adds a little versatility to it such that it can do double duty with jeans.
