Holiday Greetings from a "Newbie"

Hi,
This is my 1st posting, have been into Rolex's since childhood, currently own a SS-GMT which I picked up from the David Watch Co. in Hong Kong back in the 60's when I was," Winning The Hearts & Minds" in "The Land of Terry & The Pirates". Am currently in the process of purchasing an early SS & Gold Daytona
with the Zenith Movement. Have noticed that the same era Rolex Daytona's are going on Ebay for between $9K & 13K. Could someone answer why the Daytona with the Zenith movement is so expensive?

Hi Player,

The Zenith Daytona commands a premium in SS purely due to the desirability/availability ratio $11-22k depending on the serial/dial version.

Good news is that the TT (SS/Gold) version is available for around the $7k mark and represents a fine buy at the price.

Welcome to TRF!

Like other discontinued Rolex models, the Zenith Daytonas are popular since they are not made anymore.

Please post a pic of your 60ies GMT!

I hope you get the TT Daytona soon! Prince here has a very nice example, btw.

Hi:
Thanx for the feedback, am now "The Proud Owner" of a TT Zenith-Daytona with an "L" Serial. Supposed to be arriving today. During the negotiations, I mentioned that I had a SS-GMT with the papers, that I purchased in the mid-60's. I was surprised to hear that they would offer me a minimum of 2.9K if the watch was in good running condition. What astounds me, is why a SS Rolex is more sought after than a Gold or TT. Is there some special mystique about SS. I was told also that the SS-GMT was currently a very valuable comodity (??????).
