new to forum

Hello to everyone, I am new to this forum. Stumbled across it researching the rolex I wish to purchase, its a toss up between Submariner dateless and the date watch. Can anyone tell me what a good price is and which holds its value better? Thanks,

Welcome to TRF.
To be honest i prefer the sub date. I am not sure about the value of the watches but the expected price of a sub in europe is around 4400 to 4900 euro + you can get a really good discount if you pay cash.

Many others will weigh in here, but the Sub Date is just one of the most commonly purchased Rolexes out there. Its tough, beautiful and comfortable to wear, and as such, it holds its value very well.

Personally, since my job can be arduous and so can my off duty endeavours, I would want the tougher of the Rolex line, and as such would generally choose from the Professional Line (Sub, Sea Dweller, GMT, Explorer II, etc).

And these watches can go from suit and tie to diving suit. Very well rounded!

Consider the Sea Dweller too. One of mine and the only Rolex without a cyclops (date magnifier).

Best,

Chris

Welcome to TRF!

The SS Sub Date would definately hold its value better. It is difficult to get a good discount on the SS Sub Date in the USA, but try visiting some AD and ask what deals they can offer you.

I for my part was offered an SS Sub Date with a 15 % discount from my AD, but for one I live in Europe and secondly I have been a good customer at my AD for a long time.

But as stated, try and see what deals you can get, and if you have good negotiation skills and pay cash it helps.

Good luck!

Welcome to TRF. I say look at both in person and descide which you like. I will say nothing beats a Rolex with a date. The cyclops date window to me make a Rolex look like a Rolex no mater which model it is on. Just my 2c.

Welcome & enjoy.
Do not buy the discount, buy the watch that talks to you.

I agree with looking at them both in person and also considering the Sea Dweller if you want the date but not the date magnification (cyclops). I ended up purchasing the Sea Dweller for that exact reason. I did not like the way the watch hands are distorted by the cyclops and the magnification actually made it harder for me to read the date - you have to look at the right angle. Others love it, so it's definitely a personal preference choice to be made.

Good luck in your search and post some picture of your new watch when you get it.

Date or no date you cant really go wrong with a SS Sub.
Try them both on. To some the cyclops is essential, to others like me it messes up the simplicity and beauty ot the watch.

A significant aspect in my choice of the Sea Dweller over the Sub date was the lack of the cyclops. That said, I do have a GMT and am seeing the benefits of the cyclops, as well as the downsides.

Pick what appeals, not the one which is cheapest.

Best,

Chris

I agree with Chris. Cheaper or a little more expensive just determines "when" you buy it. Having the watch you really like best ensures how you feel about the purchase in the long run.

BTW - Welcome to TRF and let us know what you decide.

Welcome to TRF, pal. The SS Sub-Date will hold its value much better. It's still the best and ultimate Rolex out there.....no ifs or buts about that!!

I like the look of the cyclops I think it gives the watch a distinctive look.

I live in Maryland, I am going to Boston Mass for business next week and Scottsdale AZ the following week, is it true you dont have to pay sales tax if you are out of state? Thanks! Starting to lean towards the sub date.

Ben Bridge in Scottsdale seem to be pretty good, that's where my GMT came from in July this year. You can't go wrong with a Sub-date.

Tax happens.
Unless you buy mail order...
If you are concerned about affording the sales tax then save longer and do it right. Maybe you should look up which state has lower % sales tax and buy there.

You can save on tax by buying the watch out of state and have it shipped to your home address. However, not all AD's will do this. Just ask them up front.
