Inverted (upside-down) roman numerals??

Can someone please help me?? The roman numerals for 5, 6, 7, and 8 have an inverted 'V'!!??

I am perplexed by this apparent discrepancy OR is it a stylized symbol, or is it a fake ???!!!

YES, but please note that it seem unprofessional (and unlike Rolex) to have dial faces with Right-side up, as well as up-side down dial faces!! One of these styles seems 'wrong' to me.....

Opinions please.

Didn't mean to belittle your question, just wanted to present an amusing explanation of why they're not really "inverted" V's, just evenly rotated around the dial. Just a style choice I suppose; I think it works well on the dd2 and dj2!

The key point of my question is about the inconsistency in style.

1. Why would Rolex deviate like that??
2. Did Rolex -- in fact -- produce both appearance (versions) of Roman numerals??

Roman numerals make a watch dial look like a sundial. On a sundial the numerals usually face the outside of the dial because people walk around the sundial. Does this make sense?

I can't answer why Rolex does what they do, but they definitely have made both versions. The "inverted" type you describe is now the norm, though I'm not sure if they ever made those concurrently with "right-side-up" Romans such as this 80's DD (pic from bobswatches):

Frankly, I do not understand your point.

Rolex designers decided to put the Roman numerals in that fashion. It is not an "inconsistency".

Also Arabic numerals (except for the 369 dials) are arranged in the same fashion.

I think the rationale is to avoid reversing some of the figures (from 5 to 8). That would look inconsistent to me, because it breaks the radial symmetry.

Itamar,

The watch is designed as Rolex desires. That dial has been around for quite awhile and it must sell or Rolex would have discontinued it.

If you don't like that style, there are many others you may prefer.

I experienced a bad trip after a moody blues concert once where that exact thing happened to me. Only worse! Yeah once the hour hand approached noon I slid down the hand and got lodged in the date window.. Was the last time I did drugs...
