SubC shopping in Barbados.....
Hi,
Can anybody please help me out with an estimate of actual Barbados prices for SS SubC ND and Date ? Also, any advice or experiences re. buying over there would be appreciated. A Feb holiday from the UK is being planned.....funds are already put aside for the watch so any savings on UK prices can be added to the cocktail budget Thanks in advance.. |

Have a great trip - sounds warm...
The thing about Rolex in many small Caribbean island countries is the lack of competition. Few if any pre-owned around and be very careful of that... But maybe a side trip to a neighboring island, or just the mention of one when window shopping at The Royal Shop, may get you a better deal. A.H. Riise in St. Thomas Goldfinger in St. Maarten Ultra Jewels in Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel and Cabo San Lucas Gandelman Jewelers in Aruba and Curacao Kirk Freeport in the Grand Cayman Harry Edwards Jewelers in St Lucia

I have a timeshare in Barbados so I go there a few times a year. Its tricky trying to get a deal there on SS Rolex. Discounts on the SS ones are not forthcoming. If you are a good negotiator though, you can definitely get something off. The gold or 2 tone pieces I found that they will discount easily. For most other brands the AD's in Barbados are quite easy going and liberal with discounts. The beauty is that the purchase is Duty Free.
Some amazing watch boutiques at the Lime Grove mall if you like to browse. No Rolex unfortunately there though. |

I go to Barbados 2 or 3 times a year. I found my 50th anniversary Sub at the Royal Shop. And then 2 months later I found another one for a friend. They have a decent selection. Mr Tannay (sp?) is a decent bloke. Saleswomen are all pretty pleasant. Unlikely to get a big discount but you do get a break if you go to the bank and pay in cash. They don't like the credit card fee. That's about it for Bridgetown. At Limegrove there is a Panerai Shop and also a shop that sells AP's. Duty Free is great. Don't worry about the sticker price in some shops as they often have the local price which is almost 2X the price a visitor pays.
Avoid all the other shops like Diamonds International. Lousy stuff there. The Royal Shop is the only AD. Make sure you grab a meal at The Cliffs, The Lonestar and the Sandy Lane (if you aren't already staying there). Dive with Barbados Blue or the outfit in Holetown. Tell them to take you to the Stavros Nikita wreck. Feb is Polo season. Ape's Hill has a lovely view. All grounds are nice and Mr Tannay of the Royal Shop is sometimes at the matches. Enjoy. |

I say pick it up while you're there, if you can get even a small discount. It'll be a great "souvineer" of your holiday. I picked up my SubC in St. Maarten, still makes me smile to think back on that trip when I see it on my wrist.

Does anybody know the approx US$ Duty Free price (even assuming no discount) ? I have also emailed The Royal Shop to ask. Special holiday so buying as a souvenir is the definate preference....it will also look good in the holiday photos ! |

Off topic but as you are UK based, don't forget that if you buy just a single share in Signet Jewellers you are entitled to an automatic, guaranteed 10% Discount off any Rolex (or anything else for that matter) sold by Ernest Jones or Leslie Davis: http://www.signetjewelers.com/sj/pag...older-discount
I know you wouldn't have the memory of having bought it in the Caribbean but at least you'd be guaranteed to get the exact model you want and you wouldn't run the risk of falling foul of the Customs Officers at the airport upon your return. Either way, enjoy shopping for your new baby and enjoy the holiday!! |

EJ told me they could do 10% off any non sports and 5% on the SS sports... i'd say negotiate this deal THEN pull out the signet card |

"a discount of 10% on the marked price" So prices negotiated beneath MSRP can't get a stacked discount...

I know that individual branches have lost their AD status (eg EJ Oxford Street - where I got my first GMT from is now an 'Omega Boutique') but I wasn't aware that EVERY AD branch would be losing their status. In cities like Birmingham and Chester where EJ/LD carries maybe 2-3 times the stock levels of their competitors (WoS & Goldsmiths respectively in those cases) it will be a shame if true. |

I asked about a discount and was told none would be forthcoming as they would be returning unsold stock. |
