First post...noob questions.
I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon this forum and look forward to making my first purchase. I have always been leary of online purchases but I see so many great watches on here I'm convinced this is where I need to be. I do have a few noob questions though. Do the fellow member look at watches posted to vet out any potential faked? Is there a high instance of scams on the board? And finally....should I go Sub or GMT for my first Rolex? I have an Omega PO, which I love so I am leaning toward a vintage purchase. Thank you for your input!

Welcome!
1. Not really but don't post any fakes please! You will be banned and go to hell (joking as to the second one) 2. Not to my knowledge, have bought two 10k plus watches from here 3. Sub

Sub - I'm not too keen on the polished links on the GMT Master. I have a pre 2010 stainless sub, very happy with purchase.

Lots of members check the for sale posts very often. Also moderators will occasionally contact the potential sellers and ask for verification that they actual possess the watch in the pictures. There are many sellers here, as well as trusted sellers but its always important that you do your own due diligence too.
I bought my sub from davidsw and I, as well as many others, can vouch for him. Sub vs gmt is a tight race, best to try both on and go with your gut. Welcome aboard and best of luck with your search

There is a section called Watch Out!!! where suspected counterfeit listings are discussed. Read some of the threads there to get a flavor for the public service rendered free of charge.

Cant go wrong with trusted sellers here or the GMT or Sub, try both on and buy whichever burns into your soul more deeply.

This, but I'm sure that Sub will burn your soul and you'll never want to take it off.

If you have a Planet Ocean already, then I would skip a modern Sub, vintage is where they work best - check out ref. 5513 as an affordable way to get into vintage Subs. I'm a big GMT fan (as you can probably guess) - new or old, they've always been a true market leader, they've always been the most versatile Rolex IMO

Thank you all for your warm welcome, and thank you for your input! I will now begin to look at the different models and see what is for sale from the members mentioned. I will keep you updated as to what I decide....GMT or Sub.
Thanks again! Eric |
