I guess we all know this.

One other reason I buy rolex is that with time, they have not corrupted themselves. For example, take Ferrari company. If tomorrow they come out with an SUV or something other than a true sportscar, I will lose respect for them.

If tomorrow ROLEX comes out with digital watches or sticks their hands into businesses in which they are not truly KING, then I'll sell both my watches for penny on the dollar ...

The fact that ROLEX has not changed with time and not given to pressure to modernize, is a tremendous appeal for me and probably for many others also.

Very true. They offer "timeless beauty in time."

I view Ferrari with a similar thought of Rolex. Many other watches can FUNCTION as well as a Rolex at a fraction of the cost.

A new Corvette is about as fast as a new Ferrari, and is a fraction of the cost.

However, if the average person were asked if they could have any watch or sports car at no cost to them, most would answer Rolex or Ferrari.

I loved Ferrari's old advertising lines: "We are the competition." "One name says it all."

Well, I think Rolex has changed a LOT, actually!

From being a manufacturer of tool watches mainly, now Rolex focuses more on the bling factor, but you are right in as much as some models have stayed virtually unchanged, at least in design (although INNER changes have been massive, too).

IMHO, Rolex has to adapt to the changing times, and for that matter, changing world.

I like to differentiate between change and develop, it is good for brands like ferrari and rolex to develop e.g. incorporate new technologies and advances in their products, but staying true to, and without changing, the philosophies behind their designs.

hope that made sense

Tareq,
You said it very well. That's what I really meant. You said it very well in one sentence.

I see what you are saying and that is why I love the brand. The basic design of many of the Rolex models haven't changed in decades and I like that. They really are timeless designs. Sorry for the pun. They were in style generations ago, they are now and will certainly be in the future.

I was in an a jewelry store a couple of weeks ago that used to be a Rolex AD but are not any longer. I have no idea why but they quit carrying them a couple of years ago. I was looking at an Omega Speedmaster that will probably be my next purchase and she noticed my SD(I think she probably thought it was a Sub) and she said to my surprise pointing to the SD that "everyone who comes in here asks about that watch... everyone want one."

That being said, Rolex has definitely had few models that have made me
