I have two great children who travel internationally quite often, so when one of them is overseas I set the 24 hr hand to their time zone "where ever" other wise I have it at my local time zone and jump the 12 hr hand around to the time zones I travel too on a weekly basis. It is VERY much an appreciated feature on the watch. The red and blue bezel is likewise indespenable when the kids are international....

Hey BigHat. I am a former Naval Aviator too. I flew Prowlers in the Gulf and med in the 80's and 90's. What did you fly? Since I fly my own plane now, I don't hop between as many time zones as I used to. I keep the 24 Hour hand on Zulu time since it is handy for weather and flight planning.

Sorry for the delayed response. Didn't tag the thread and stumbled across it today.

I was a USMC variety NA and flew mostly CH-46 helos. Taught AI at Schools Command (Aero and Nav) and flew NFO studs out at VT-10 ('85-'88). That helped me get some additional F/W time.

Thanks for the input. Sadly, I do zero flight planning, so after fooling around for awhile I've opted keep the 24 hour hand on "home" and adjust the main hour hand to the current local.

Take care,
Matt

i track 3 time zones with my watch:
12 hour hand is set to local time (PST)
24 hour hand is set to GMT
3rd time zone is tracked by rotating the bezel. half my team works in china so i always have the bezel rotated so 8 is at the 12 o'clock position

in fact, i just came back from our office in china and i never had to adjust my watch for local time :-)

I just love the (E)A-6!!! I had models of it and the B-52 when growing up hanging from the ceiling.

A-6's are still flying (at least Prowlers are), where's the F-14???? Exactly!

Home. My brother lives in Denmark. If I'm ever needing to keep track of his time zone I'll just rotate the bezel.

The F-14s are sitting in the desert. Haven't been in the operating forces for a few years.

Exactly!

Like the B-52, old well built airframes, around long enough for the sons of the original flyers to pilot them.

I keep mine on Zulu out of habit. In Army SF and U.S.M.C. recon units all of our scheduled commo was scheduled by Zulu time. Now my kids always want to know what time it is in London (Harry Potter Time.)

True enough. The genesis of the watch was to serve airline pilots that operate in Zulu time as do much of the military. As a practical matter though, a GMT watch is a dual time watch and can be set to meet the needs of the individual. Many individuals have travel or international business requirements as much as the need to know Zulu time.

I also keep it set to Zulu. When I travel to a different time zone I use the hour jump to set the local time where I am at and I live in Hawaii so I rotate the bezel 10 clicks clockwise for Hawaii local time (zulu -10). If you know the local time from Zulu, all I ever have to do is rotate the bezel forward or backwards to the new time zone.

Interesting question and discussion. Just got my TT GMTII less than 2 weeks ago, and I set the 24hr hand to "local" time (EST, right now). I do find that I use the bezel to rotate it back 3 hours so that I can instantly know what time it is in California (PST), which is where a lot of folks with whom I work are located.

But the suggestion of setting the 24hr hand to GMT (and leaving it there) is intriguing.. I kind of like that! I may try it and see how it goes.

I do have to say I am finding that 2nd time zone and the bezel FAR more useful than I originally anticipated!

I permanently set the 24 hour time to "Eruo" time, as i have friends there, and make the occasional Skype call. Therefore, i'd like to know the time in Europe before i call, in case they're still sleeping!

Zulu time equals GMT. If I recall correctly it reflects alphabetical designations of certain time zones.
