Hi all. I'm new to this forum. Searched for the obvious answer but need reassurance. I been looking for GMT Master II for a while. I found a very nice GMT II with a black bezel at a very reputable local watch retailer. This is a one owner watch that was recently traded in. The salesman showed me a new authentic pepsi bezel still in its wrapper and offered to install such at no extra cost if I purchased the watch. Sales price $6,450.

Question? Would this watch be considered an authentic GMT II Pepsi?

Yes.... er...no.. oh, maybe...

Only in the USA did the packaging come with a build code on the orignal paperwork, such as R16710N30B7679

R16710 = Rolex GMT II
N = black insert
30 = black dial
B7679 = 76790 bracelet.

What insert the GMT was "born" with is not marked or listed any place else..

However, Rolex has alway provided any color insert for the GMT unless that model only came with a single style. It is not a lesser watch if an insert is changed at a later date........

welcome to the forum and i will say go for it if its going to be in your person for a lng time to come as far as the insert goes it doesn't matter but if i were you i tell him tro in a coke also.

Pretty sure my 16710 paperwork list it as a 16710B, the "B" indicating it left the factory with the "Pepsi" bezel...

Agree with Larry on his points.

Would add a proviso that putting a Pepsi insert on a s/n watch made before they were available, or well after Rolex stopped building them, would be anachronistic and an astute WIS would call "foul"...

The paperwork for a 16710 Pepsi includes a "B" after the model #. This is the only way you'd know how the watch was originally configured.

So, it boils down to what you mean by "authentic." If by "authentic" you mean "as per the paperwork," then no, it would not be. If by "authentic" you mean that the watch is configured in the manner that a 16710 could have been originally configured, then it's authentic.

I don't think anyone here would pay more for the first type of authentic than the second, so long as it's an authentic Rolex bezel insert.

Mine had a special ordered black bezel insert but the green tag showed it was a 16710RB which ment it was changed to black at Rolex from a Pepsi,i changed it to a Pepsi,at no extra cost.

Do not worry, change the bezel to the one you like best and enjoy your watch :) It is a Rolex watch with a Rolex bezel.

That price is steep. I wouldn't consider a swapped bezel changing the watch at all. Bezel inserts are really disposable parts after all.

Yeah, closer to $5K would be more like it. Although at over $6K I'm a happy camper as I already own a 16710.

That seems like a fairly excessive price for a GMT II.

No it would not be an authentic Pepsi because the style # on the papers would not match the build of the watch.

The style # on my GMT-II Pepsi is R16710B30B7879.

Yes, seems pricey, but it's at a retailer. Assuming that it's a fairly recent serial number and comes with all paperwork, boxes, etc ... and with an extra insert, closer to $5K is probably a fairer price, keeping in mind that it's a discontinued model whose appeal will only continue to grow. I might throw in a little more if it comes with a warranty and/or a service. I wouldn't worry about the "authentic Pepsi" debate. It would be fine in my book. A NATO strap isn't correct on a Rolex, either, but many of us do it. Anything that can be swapped fairly easily is fine, and a Pepsi looks great. Good luck either way.

I have found a 1675 with a Pepsi bezel. 1971 box and papers. Hong Kong bought. Can purchase it for $6,800 USD. Intertested if anyone has comments on whether this is a legit watch (by looking at the picture) and a good deal?
