Now I did it...Jeweler or Watchmaker?

While I was putting a band on my new lovely pillow, the lug across the top broke in 2 places. I guess the wire was very brittle. I am very disappointed. So, my question is, jeweler, or watchmaker for the fix? And since it needs fixing, would it be stupid to try to put different lugs on it to use springbars? Thanks guys!

I love Bob. He has two of my watches right now. My only issues are time and money. Yes, I know you get what you pay for, and a great job is worth waiting for... that's why he has the two I sent him

The dial is not original, so the whole idea of purism is out, except to the extent that I'd like it to be period correct. I have the silver wire, and if I knew how to solder I might try it, but I have neither knowledge nor tools, although I'd love to learn sometime. My husband won't let me play with anything hot or sharp, as a public safety issue. In fact, in our wedding vows, he promised to protect me from power tools. He lets me use a dremmel though. Ah well.

That's going to require soldering so a good jeweler would be better than a watchmaker.

That said, if Bob Ridley can do it then you are covered on both bases.

I'd give him a shout...

That's an easy repair for a good custom jeweler either with the standard mini torch or better yet, a laser welder. I'd take the movement out before I gave it to them to fix.

They'll use pickling solution probably, flux and whatnot and they'll want to ultrasonic and steam clean it most likely so it makes things easier.

I am sure they will remove the movement and crystal before working on the case...

Give Alex at ABC Watchwerks a call. Their work is second to none, prices are more than fair and turnaround time is really good.

Thank guys. I took it to a master jeweler. I took out the movement, which was trivial.
