SD smiled at me yesterday
I was browsing at the rolexes at the AD yesterday, and I think I got the answer to my question, "black sub date or SD?"
They sat there in the case side by side, and while the sub date looked good, the SD glowed back at me and smiled. Now I know what my next watch is going to be , if only I could convince the wife I need a third rolex...

I had the same problem, in fact the Sub date s/s was a grail watch, until I saw and tried the SD.

Of course you "need" a 3rd! You don't have any Sporties yet! Just remember that if you buy it, your wife will also "need" some jewelry too!

LOL, not much question that you need a third Rolex, as long as it's the SD. Heck of a tool-diver that you'd own / wear for a long time. I love mine and wear it almost exclusively since buying it at the start of this past September. I think that my wife got tired of hearing about it for the past three years ...

What's the deal with all these SD threads?!! I will have to pick one up soon! The SD is definitely more unique than the Sub, but you do take a harder hit on resale than the Sub. For me though, the SD will be a keeper so that does not matter.

Although there aren't nearly as many Sea-Dwellers in the wild as there are Subs, there are a lot of SD fans on this Forum.
We're just a talky bunch, I guess.

While I do love the heft, feel and comfort of the SD.....it's the lack of cyclops that does put me off a bit.
Without the cyclops, I feel like something is "missing". I've had the pleasure of owning 2 SDs in my life....and on both occasions, have felt the same. JJ

Now that you have decided on the model you want, it will be all uphill from here because convincing your wife will be the most difficult part! Best of luck!

While I was in Wal Mart talking to the crook, I did notice that the srystal noticeably sitcks out ... that's definitely adbsent on the subs and while talking to that crook, I did notice that the dial was a little smaller on the SD ... and indeed it is ...by 1mm .... or i guess when your life is flashing in ffront of you, everything looks smaller

The thing about the slightly raised crystal I think its actually better like that because it actually protects the bezel from accidental knocks. Ive accidentally brushed it up against a wall or whatever and its the hard sapphire that takes the hit. Of course you could chip it and it would be more expensive to replace then a bezel but I don't think it would chip easily being so well rounded and smooth.

The SD has a very pretty smile ...
I paced in front of an AD for 45 minutes trying to figure out wether to get the Sub Date or the SD they had in the window. Finally I decided that the SD was more unusual than the Sub Date but still had a similar iconic look to it, and that along with the SEL of the SD bracelet smiled wider to me. |

SD is one of the finest Rolex watches made, I would sell every Rolex I have in my collection even my YM before I thought of selling the SD. You can not go wrong with the SD. A positive side of the missing cyclops is you don't have to clean aroung the cyclops when a film builds up on the crystal. I hate cleaning around the cyclops.

I like the fact that the SD don't have a cyclop. I think it's easier to see the date without it... Anyway, both the Sub-date and the SD are great watches!!!

It's doing it again!!!! Thanks alot, fear...
I guess what really atracts me to the SD is the clean look from the lack of a cyclops, and the way the slightly smaller size gives it the more compact look of a rugged well built machine. The fact that I am a certified diver(non active any more) may also have something to do with it. I plan to use this watch as a all around weekend watch, and for military use. ( I went in the National Gaurd after 12 yrs active duty and a 21 yr break in service). Now, about having to buy my wife jewelry.........
