Both the YM and Daytona are great choices. I'm definitely biased towards the Daytona because I have one. Adore it!

If you decide on a YM, and are open to preowned, you can find a great minty one at a steal as compared to new.

First decide on the model you want, and then go from there.

Keep us posted!
Great to see another female member, though everyone on here seems really friendly and helpful

A quick trip at the weekend to Goldsmiths, and I tried several watches on my petite wrists, expecting the Daytona and full-size YM to possibly look too big. But much to my surprise, both looked great. I fell in love with the YM with platinum bezel, until I tried the Rose Gold DT... Oh God.. what a watch!!

They will offer 2 (possibly 3) years interest free credit. No way I can afford £25K, but once I tried the Gold DT, I couldn't stop thinking about it. So my choices are:

1) Get YM on 0% finance (and forget Gold DT exists!)
2) Save cash and get a used YM at a much better price. Then...
3) Save and get a used Gold DT.. and be extremely happy!!

What does everyone think? What would be a good price for a used platinum bezel YM, and a Rose Gold Daytona (black dial)? I know the YM is plentiful, but are there many RG DTs around?

Welcome fellow Brit.

I think the Lady datejusts look best on women.
Very feminine and classy.

Although you pay top money I'd go to Goldsmiths and take advantage of their 0% finance. I tried getting discounts for all 3 of my watches with no luck.

Don't worry about people querying you name.
Some here actually have names for thier watches!
E.g Hulk, shark, Smurf etc.

It's a strange world.

Welcome again.

In the us, it's all depends on the AD. I'm in Chicago, bought mine from an AD in Boston and had it shipped next day as no one around me would discount at all(but all were willing to ship out of state to save on the tax). They gave me 15% off a green sub ("hulk"), and I didn't have to pay for the shipping or tax. SS Daytonas are still hard to find so no discounts in the states. But a good general rule of thumb is shoot for 10-15% off stainless models and as much as 30% for solid precious metal models at AD's.

Welcome!

Obviously, a watch is a highly personal purchase. I looked into several models for several months. I was never a fan of Rolex's ladies' DateJust models. I loved the Submariner, but Rolex of course does not make a Sub in a ladies' size. I did not want to wear a man's-sized watch. For me, that left the Yachtmaster. I then looked at various models within the Yachtmaster line, and liked the stainless steel/platinum one. I've been wearing the 29 mm ladies' size for more than a dozen years, and love it. It is a pretty chunky, watch...definitely does not feel petite. So, my vote goes for the Yachtmaster. I have several friends who wear Rolexes, and none of them have a Yachtmaster...they all wear the ladies' DateJust.

Do you like more of a gold tone watch or a silver tone watch and jewelry?

I'm sure there are dealers who can give you a discount, or go through a trusted TRF seller here. In 2001 I was able to get about a 20% discount on a brand new watch (I paid all-cash).

Good luck on your quest!

Welcome! Sounds like you've picked some really good options there. By purchasing a share in Signet Group you would be entitled to a Signet card which would automatically give 10% discount from Ernest Jones. The only fly in the ointment is that they have lost/given up their AD status and there are less and less branches carrying the Rolex line around, so you'd have to be quick. They will also do finance. You could look at Blowers jewellers or Iconic watches both of which have a great reputation and will be less expensive than from an AD (particularly Iconic watches). Good luck.

My wife rocks a two tone 40mm datejust -- very classy. But then she could wear a paper bag and still look great. I digress. The datejust is a nice option too, though the Daytona would be quite the piece.

Thank you for the great advice. I've looked at Blowers already, but Iconic watches looks pretty good regarding prices.

I'm really torn between buying new and used. I guess if I'm not sure, I should hang fire, and do a bit more research.

Just another query. The guy in Goldsmiths told me Rolex don't make a Gold Yachtmaster, even though I told him I'd seen some online. He said they must be fake! Is it a discontinued model?

I often find the knowledge is somewhat "patchy" in the big chains. Rolex did a gold Yacht-Master for a number of years, but discontinued it in 2012. They do the YM II in gold, but that's a very different watch. I guess the YM in 18ct gold wasn't sustainable alongside the 18ct Sub Date and GMT.

Welcome to TRF! Hang around here for awhile and get a better feel for the Rolex line of watches, their pros and cons, new vs. pre-owned, relative prices, etc. Be patient and the right one will turn up!

Can anyone advise me whether discounts are offered when buying new, or whether you can expect to pay the full List Price? And maybe discounts are only offered on cash purchases?

I am considering the Yachtmaster or Daytona, by the way. I suppose my ideal scenario would be a used watch, paid for on instalments. I know.. I'm a woman.. I want it all!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I say start looking at what older guys are wearing like old subs or gmts maybe even a dj offer to start for a few grand is the best way to start. If you need to finance the watch its no fun. A used DJ you may be able to grab for $1200 or less and They look great on Jen aniston I'm sure it will look great on you too. I have bought and traded for many watches just walking in grocery stores or even at work with customers. Next time you see a guy with no date sub offer $2k bc your dad had one maybe he will say yes
