Icon20 Ready to get my first Rolex

Hi all,

My name is Richard and I am interested in purchasing a Rolex watch. My father has a 19018 Oyster Quartz Day Date he bought new in the 70's which he will pass down to me one day. The rare thing about it is that there is no cyclops over the date, plus the fact that it's an Oyster Quartz. Another cool fact is that the RSC will not put one on it since it did not originally come with one.

In the meantime I have been searching for one of my own. I consider myself a savvy buyer so I have been brushing up on my knowledge by using this and other websites. I decided to create a profile to ask some questions before I make a purchase.

I am leaning towards a SS Date Just with a Silver or Rhodium Dial. Since a Rolex is timeless I have not limited myself to buying brand new. I am considering finding a gently used watch or a classic from the same era as my father's.

Thanks in advance for answering the many questions I will have and I look forward to contributing to the community once I have increased my knowledge of these fine time pieces.

Welcome to TRF and the 19018 Oyster Quartz would have had a cyclops when bought new originally and that's a fact.

Welcome... And if you have any questions let us all know. We are here to help.

As for your thoughts on which one to get, I really like the silver or rhodium looking dial on the Rolex DateJust2.

Let us all know what you decide, and good luck!
