Wanting to buy an Oysterquartz with no Serial Number

Hi friends, I need your opinion. I have found the Oysterquartz Datejust that I've been looking for a long time now. The reference number is 17010, a stainless model with an off-white colored dial and a 18k white gold fluted bezel. All mint.

The only problem is where you normally find the serial and model numbers on the bottom of the Oysterquartz case are barely legible if not unlegible.

The owner of the pawn shop where this watch is located at, says the bottom may have been 'over-polished', but the rest of the watch looks to be unused like it came from a time capsule. I've bought two other Rolexes from this person and both watches were perfect, authentic and serial numbers in-tact.

He's asking $2400.00 and gives a 1-year warranty. I asked him if he would document the serial number issue on the receipt. He stated he would.

Would you buy this watch? His asking price is good IF it had all the stampings and IF they were legible. Please advise. Thank you!

17010 isn't an existing model. With white gold fluted bezel it should be 17014.

If it's "really" a 17010 , just don't buy it ...
