To Dive or Not to Dive... Rolex vs AP

If you are actually going to dive ( and I say this as an AP owner and fan ) go with the Deep Sea.

In terms of movement and encampment
Rolex is better due to
grid lock (this one has it right)
Auto gas thingy
Goes down deeper
Bezel turns (right?)
Ceramic bezel
Steel belt

*This should not be taken seriously due to my lack of knowledge and personal opinion.
FYI, the AP has an inner bezel that turns...albeit it with more difficulty than would be preferred for a true dive watch.

AP all the way! That watch is stunning in person. I find the DSSD to be too thick and way too busy with all the superfluous writing all over it. For functionality, I think the Rolex gets the edge, but let's face it, in this price range it isn't really about functionality is it?

I am not a big fan of either watch, but if I had to choice it would be the DSSD because the ROO and the Royal Oak line look like stop signs with screws. (AP fans please don't be offended. My opinions are based on my personal tastes that I can't control.)

Such an odd comparison between two watches that are both so loved or hated by many. Personally, as much as I absolutely love the AP diver, as far as a dive or tool watch is concerned, the deep sea wins on practicality alone. On looks, long term wearability and comfort I would buy the AP and never look back.

DSSD is a pure rugged divers watch, muscular and thick, while the APD is more refined and elegantly finished. AP wins this battle for me.

I have both and if I had to pick my favorite of the two it would be the AP. The AP diver is ISO certified and has a depth rating of 300m. There is no reason that it can't do everything the Rolex Sub can do. Now the DSSD does have a deeper rating but the furthest depth I've reached with either watch is about 50ft. In practical use the depth rating, He escape valve, bracelet extension, etc don't mean much to me other than cool factor and admiration of the engineering.

The OP did mention "beautiful" and the AP is FAR more beautiful than the DSSD in looks and detail. Lets be realistic...these are luxury dive watches. Both can be used for diving but the AP is far superior when it comes to luxury and exclusivity.

I've tried on the Deapsea a few times. i'm a big guy but I found its height to be unwieldy, and I'm also not a fan of all the writing on it. As an enthusiastic long time diver I prefer the classic looks and functionality of a Rolex. If I wanted a dive watch for diving I'd be after a Sub or SD, though these days a dive computer is the way to go.
The choice in question suggests that the OP isn't looking for a tool to track his bottom time.
If I had the money to consider the OP's options I would buy a WG Sub. And maybe a no date stainless Sub for diving.

What do YOU think ? If your buying 1 for me I'll take ........ either. Maybe try them both on and see which 1 you like and which 1 suits you better before you buy a watch that doesn't sit well on your wrist.
