6605 I consider buying - what's your Opinion?

Just found this on ebay and spoke to the seller – Hilal Saad (sp?) – on the phone and per ebay ratings (100%) he seems upfront enough and has this watch for sale:

I may consider exchanging the dial for a silver one.

But in any case I'd be very interested to hear my compatriots' opinion on it and if you have any experience with this seller.

It looks pretty good to me, but I don't have any experience with eBay sellers sorry. The price is quite reasonable too I think.

One question though, why would you consider swapping the dial for the silver one? I think it looks good as is. IMHO.

Shade - just like the contrast better; my stolen 1601 had that combo and I just happen to love it. Thanks for your input!

michel33 - I'm not knowledgeable enough, so I wonder: why would overpolished lugs be a reason not to buy a watch? Is that a problem per se, or an indicator for other problems, or both? Thanks!

Frankly, I'd stay away from these mid-late '50s Datejusts because of the potential serious problems arising from servicing the cal. 1065 movements. Can be a real headache (especially if previous watchmakers have botched repairs), and parts are not readily available.

On this particular one, the dial is a later service replacement, and I agree that the lugs appear over-polished.

Many thanks for your comment and the explanation; I'll refrain from this one and 1065 movements then. Valuable info, much appreciated. (Seller told me it's a replacement dial btw; I thought so too because the stick markers came around only later as far as I know.)

I only speak from experience -- best to stick with the later cal. 1560/1570 movements, 1959 and later. Unless it's been serviced and fully guaranteed...

Since it's a later dial anyway, the pleasure of owning a 6605 is much diminished in this case anyway (those original "SWISS" dials can be lovely).

Agree with the above comments. Those lugs are way too thin now from polishing, and that dial is refinished, as the ad says. Also, in general, I stay away from watches that have mismatched accessories, such as that booklet and box that are not period-correct for this model. That's not a good sign, almost as if the seller is trying to trick potential buyers. Good luck in your search!
