93150 Bracelets

So I was thinking today, I have a couple of 93150's that came with a couple of my purchases that just sit around and do nothing,edited. In any event, they're in what I call great shape, but I honestly do not know what is considered good/bad/indifferent stretch. I mean to me, they're fine, but if I do decide to sell them I want to be as descriptive as possible.

Now, I do not know if I'm going to sell them yet so please no PM's. This isn't a fishing expedition, I really want to understand stretch and garner an opinion.

As for understanding stretch, I understand what causes it. However, is there a method to determine what is light or moderate or excessive stretch? Along those lines, after reading all of the success stories from others sending their bracelets to Mr. M. Young, does one market a bracelet as "superb" after they get their bracelets back from him. I mean, I assume a bracelet was in dire straights at one time when it went to Mr. Young.....does coming back in mint condition negate all of that? Say, a $400 bracelet is now a $1000 bracelet?

Maybe I didn't word any of this correctly, I dunno. edited

Pete, I think this is a subjective topic. My pricing and condition opinions are: (I did not address none vs over polishing)
tight = $800+
  • limited or no space/gaps between the outer links when on the wrist
  • when holding the head - no droop at all
  • limited or no play or side to side where the bracelet meets the end link

Reasonable stretch = $600 - $800
  • some space/gaping between the outer links when on the wrist
  • when holding the head - some droop
  • some but not alot of play or side to side where the bracelet meets the end link

Stretched = $500 range
  • much space
  • heavy droop
  • alot of side to side

Yes, this could be a guide, but there are so many other details to conclude on the actual price IMO

Give them the bend test.

Here are three. Top is good, middle as tight as can be, and the bottom I would call a beater.

If it looks like the attached photo, expect top dollar, especially on a 20-year-old bracelet. $950 on up.

$750-$800 for above average condition - which seems to be the condition of most bracelets. A slight droop when held sideways, and minimal gaps between the links.

In answer to your last question, you could state a bracelet tightened by MY as in superb condition as long as you state in your sale ad that it has been tightened. My 93150 had a bit of stretch that MY sorted and it now looks like new, my 9315 is next! Not sure what the pricing would be for a tightened one though!

I'd take the beater,I hate when people polish the crown on the clasp down to the bone.

How does pricing on tightened ones work John?

In fairness, you should only add the cost of the restoration to the previous estimated value of the bracelet, determined by how worn out it was before, IMO. Anyone can send one to HK for 120 bucks, and doing that doesn't make a previously slack old chain into 'excellent condition'. Like a car that's been restored after an accident - may look like it was before, but it isn't...

Thanks for the input members. I wondered the same about stretch.

Good question Pete...
I have thought about that myself...
I actually think a bracelet with a "bit" of stretch is more comfortable then one that is very tight...
I purchased a watch some time ago and was told that the bracelet had been, "restored"...I hated it...
It was so tight as to be stiff and uncomfortable...
When I recently restored my own 93160, I was careful not to make it overly stiff...
I guess a lot of it has to do with personal preference...
I remember buying a brand new 93150 from Rolex for $400...
Those are the days...
