Mercedes "GL" get-together

My wife met a bunch of like-minded vehicle owners on a forum she belongs to, and they put together a meeting of GL owners this past weekend. Here are some photos taken at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. We had a blast, met some wonderful people, and got to enjoy a beautiful part of the country we hadn't seen. There are two white, three black, one green, and one blue GL-450/GL-550's. Enjoy!

Nice SUV! I looked at those on the car lot today! I also looked at the lexus gx470 too. How does your wife like her gl450?

Thanks.

Thurnau, she is very pleased with her GL-450. It is an upgrade to an Expedition, and although she liked the Ford a lot, this is a quantum leap in almost every category. It is a pleasure to drive, and the only SUV we looked at that feels like a car when you are driving it. She also looked at the GX470, and the BMW X5, but the GL won her over with cargo/passenger space, as well as price vs performance. Looking at raw numbers, I might have gone a different route, but this is her car, and her choice.

Here is a photo of her and her GL.

The question is...was there any off-roading involved?

vh_bu98 - the only "off roading" involved was just to get in position for a photo-op! lol.

A couple months ago my wife and I took a trip to Montana, and found ourselves on what the map called an "unimproved road". That turned out to be an unimproved understatement, but the GL held it's own. I'm an offroader from way back, and the idea of offroading in a Benz is akin to blasphemy, but this vehicle did a great job.

Here is another photo from the meet - the only one that came close to needing the full-time 4wd! lol

Great pics and a brilliant car, and a true off roader as well

Huh?!?

Let's not go crazy here. It's a beautiful vehicle, well-suited to the roads of Southern California, but it is no off-roader. It's a GL, not a G. It's Unibody/AWD.

Out of the GL450, BMW X5 and Lexus GX470, the only one that can be considered an off-roader is the Lexus, which is really a Toyota Surf/4runner/Land Cruiser Prado.

Great pics, I'm about to buy an ML. GL is a little to pricey for me, but great truck.

I love the GL for a larger SUV and would personally get the Diesel.
