RBii vs. JPM vs. GP

I'm looking to purchase my first AP imminently, and I was hoping some of the cognoscenti here could help me out. I've narrowed my choices to the three above, all in gold, but am having trouble pinning down the exact size of each. I've tried on the Grand Prix, and know it's 44mm, but I've seen the Rubens and the Montoya listed anywhere from 42-46mm. I'm a large mammal, and definitely want at least 44mm, so if the other two do, in fact, clock in at 42mm, my agonizing decision would be much easier. Thanks to any of you fine folks who may have an answer, and I'll be sure to post my purchase next week.

thats quite a first AP!

only the GP is 44mm

RB2 and JPM are 42 but wear bigger due to the pushers

also to note is that the 44mm watches may fit better due to the way the lugs taper to your wrist.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been saving up for a bit. Lost all my other watches (long story), so I decided I'm going to just get one watch that I love - kind of the hedgehog vs. fox of horology. I should be picking the GP up Monday, and I'll try to post pictures if I can figure out how.

RB2 look the best among 3, GP is the largest 44MM.

I know the RB2 is the general favorite around here and elsewhere, and it's definitely the most versatile - able to be both dressy and sporty - but I love the GP. Part of it is that I'm still young-ish, so I feel like now is the only time I can pull it off; in a few years, maybe I'll trade it for an RB2 or something else, but, for now it's a GP for me.

Plus, I'm a big car fan, and the carbon fiber and alcantara leather look good next to the Ferrari I'm hoping to pick up.

GP is definitely more flashy and has a higher "cool" factor while RB2 is more timeless and conservative.

you can always own both some day :)

Yeah, I considered that too. The RGGP seems to be the most 'controvesial' AP - people either love it or hate it. I'm obviously one of the former, but, damnit, I'm trying to be flashy here! Hey - at least I'm not icing it out with aftermarket diamonds.

Heru,
as a guy with more than two watches with Ceramic bezel..
how do you find the one on the RB2? is it as robust and scratch resistant as the SB and BB? is it the same composite used by AP in 2006 on the RB2 as later on the more recent ones?

I really not sure how to answer this, but both look the same to me.

i can answer this for you since ive had both..

the BB and 44mm FC ceramic bezels have a very sharp edge, that can be very slightly scuffed which you would probably only notice from a light reflection.

the RB2 bezel doesn't have the sharp edges. and is also better finished (a fine rainbow brushed finish and polish on the edges that looks like it wet)

as far as which one is more durable, I would say the slight edge goes to the RB2 because it doesnt have the sharp edges but both are extremely durable being ceramic

BTW - I'm a big car fan as well (as many of us are) and unless you are going for a black Ferrari, I'd say the carbon GP matches better as well...b/c of course you would need to go Red/tan with the yellow tach...

The one I have my eye on is yellow/cuoio. You guys are killing me - it took me literally a year of bouncing from the Freak, to the a. lange timezone, to a half dozen different iterations of AP's before I made up my mind, and now y'all are giving me second thoughts.

You asked for it!

But seriously, go for what you have decided, since obviously you have already considered a great deal. I've seen an RG GP in the wild recently, and it was really striking and flashy as you have said. It caught on me instantaneously and distracted my attention to the babe beside him... How powerful! Both RB2 & JPM look more subtle in gold IMO, may not be so impactful for showing off.

All three models are classic. Good luck in your quest... And show us your choice soon!

It's too late to change my mind now - I just made sure of that. Luckily, I was never a big fan of the carbon grand prix, but it's obviously a matter of taste. Some like Mozart, others Beethoven. Or, more a propos here, some like lambos, some like Ferraris.

By the way, nothing like a great watch on your left hand a beautiful girl on your right arm. Fortunately, I've got my mind made up on that front, too.
