How do you wear your watch?

I'm sure this has been discussed on this forum before, but I'm a noob and couldn't find anything in reference to this via the search feature.

What I'm asking is, do you wear your watch on the elbow side (side closest to your elbow) or the hand side (closest to the hand) of your wrist bone?

In the past I used to keep my watches a little loose to where it could slide over my wrist bone fairly easily. This of course, would occasionally end up putting dents in the top of my hand from the crown, when the watch would slide a little over my hand.

So, is it all a matter of opinion on where on your wrist your watch sits or is the elbow-side considered rule of thumb?

Everybodies different and has their opinion..

Mine is, if you wear it on the hand side of the wrist bone you put a tremendous amount of pressure on the bracelet when the wrist is bent, not to mention the crown digging into the back ow the wrist..

I wear mine above the wrist bone.. and tight enough so it will not rotate around the wrist without considerable help..

Here's a bunch of wrist shots...http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=27459

Typically I wear my watch over the wrist bone, closer to the hand. Sometimes I wear it behind the wrist bone, closer to the elbow if my arm has swelled from heat.

I wear mine behind the wrist bone, typically a tad loose. With the heavy GMT, however, I need to wear it a tad snug, because I truly hate watch flop and a lot of sliding around. It kind of depends which watch I'm wearing to determine the looseness, but always off the wrist bone.

SS Submariner / hand side.

I wear it on my right hand so the crown does not dig in even thought I'm right handed.

Naturally left handed but my father forced me in certain areas to be right handed. Long story.

I wear my Rolex on my wrist. Most practical way to go, IMHO.

Edit: Oh, I see Thani already said that.

Okay then! I wear it on my left wrist, behind the wrist bone, and I wear the watch so that I can just put my little finger underneath the clasp. That makes for a pretty snug fit, but not too snug.

Right now I wear mine in my dreams. But when I finally find the one I want I'll wear it on the hand side or my left arm. Good question.

Left arm below the wrist bone. This area seems not to swell as much during warm whether or during sport.

Over the wrist bone/hand side...same thing. Definitly not "wedged" up my forearm.

Much appreciated gents! My wrist tends to be between sizes, which is a pain, but I'm going to try and go above the bone with my first Rollie.

Great forum, btw.

Snug

I wear my GMT and my heavy Breitling behind the write bone. It KILLS me if my watch is too lose. Everytime it hits that round bound...it's really ouchy.

Snug....but not too, too snug. That's my formula.

Snug fit? - if you wear it snug, does it leave marks? Mine does currently. Not sure if this is too tight. It's taken me awhile to get used to it but, it does leave marks now. Nothing heavy and it doesn't hurt. Sometimes uncomfortable when hot but, that's it. And, it's loose when cool....

Above my wrist - on the elbow side. Proximal, isn't it? Rather than distal.

John, tell me about that watch? Vintage? Bubbleback? California dial? It's very attractive.

Not snug enough to leave marks, but snug so that it does not move around on my wrist (I hate that feeling!!!)

If I try I can squeeze the tip of my pinkie finger under the bracelet with a little effort.

This watch ( poor pictures) is a Panerai 249.
It is a Special Edition, limited to 1936 pieces.
1936 represents the year this watch was first produced by Panerai for the Italian Navy.
At that time, it contained a ROLEX movement.
47mm in diametre, plexiglass crystal ( true to original specs)
The dial was also a Rolex Cali dial ( not 100% sure on this, but pretty sure).
Back in the days, Panerai and Rolex had a "joint venture" to outfit the Italian Navy with durable time pieces.
Has a display back ( sorry no pics), power reserve of 56 hours, screw down crown, water resistant to 30m

My 232 ( below), was orginally made in 1938, and is also a SE with 1938 produced.
Similar specs as above , but solid caseback, but resistant to 100m.
