Overseas Sale Pending. Advice Please.
I have an interested buyer for my SS Datejust. This will be an overseas transaction. Any advice or warnings about this transaction? Thanks.

Wire transfer to your account. Verify money has cleared, then you can ship it. Paypal is high risk if not in USA.

Thanks, guys. I had heard that Paypal for overseas transactions is not safe. Is it because of differing laws in other countries?

Accept wire and wire only. With paypal, it's very very easy to screw the seller (I won't divulge methods here). Shipping something that valuable overseas is a calculated risk.

I just sold my Milgauss (in the US) and got the payment via PayPal. Are you saying this may not be safe???
If you already received the payment, what can go wrong if you ship it to the confirm address??? |

you send the item to paypal's confirm address. that mean you are covered by paypal.
but, if the buyer wanna cheat you, he just need to file to credit card company, saying u sell him fake, or file not as describe, and all the payment will be reversed. and paypal charge you $10 for the credit card chargeback fee. |

You can wake up one day and have a huge negative balance in your Paypal (or possibly in your bank account)

Hi all. I am the potential buyer. What protects me using this method? What if, after wiring the money, the seller doesn't send the watch, or sends something that does not look like the pictures etc. (hypothetically speaking!)

paypal benefit buyer the most, like ebay, buyer is the most important player.
you pay using paypal, he did not send the item, you file paypal, saying not receive item, and after 14 days i think, if seller did not send you the item. your $$$ will come back. if the seller, wanna cheat you, he send you a bottle of water, you file a police report, and send the document to paypal, and also, message paypal about seller send you a bottle of water. |

Absolutely nothing. That's why you must ask for references before the deal is finalized.

In case you are thinking about Paypal, I would like to give you the benefit of my experience. I was victim to a PP payment 'reversal'. I sold a watch on E-Bay to a US buyer and after a seemingly perfect transaction, two months later the 'buyer' reversed the payment and without any explanation whatsover (and mysteriously disappeared also). PP deducted the full amount ($1.000) from my balance without any prior questioning on either side. Overseas seller protection with PP is limited. As in my case, the saving grace is that not always the fraudulent party comes out on top but it can shake your confidence. From now on, it will be bank transfer if at all, and wait until payment clears. Good luck with the sale.

If the seller was to write up a letter of agreement, with the watch specifications, that stated he agreed to sell it to me for x amount, and will send upon receipt of funds to x account, does that hold any water if things were to go awry?

Most sellers (even legit ones) will not be willing to go through that extra hassle, which I doubt would really hold up even if you shelled out money to go to court.

Let me see.......in the USA everyone that uses Pay Pal , never pulls a fast one on a seller?
PLUHEEEEEZEEEEEEE. I'm an overseas buyer and I use Pay Pal.......... Simply being a non-USA buyer should not inhibit international commerce, because there are many decent individuals outside of the U.S.A. I don't want to be specific to this thread, but what protects the buyer if he wires the money? Ha, ha, ha.........NOTHING OF COURSE ! Now, back to our regular programming: How about using a third party of good faith to hold the funds until complete inspection is done. |
