Unless you have a need for the stop watch feature, go GMT. I just never could see why I would need a stop watch.
Another alternative would be to go with an Explorer II. You could save some money and still track two time zones. |

GMT gets my vote. Daytona doesn't appeal to me very much.

out of these two...no contest...Daytona every time...is stylish and elegant everything I think the black and blue GMT is not...I do agree though that if a date is wanted...go with a GMT...just not this one.

If you're only going to have one, go with he GMT. Had the SS Daytona for 3 years then flipped it for a DSSD and gavent looked back. In the end the weak lume outweighed the uniqueness of owning the watch. Good luck deciding mate!

Why ask peoples opinions on a matter of personal taste. Arent you almost always going to get a 50/50 reply. You may as well flip a coin.

I'd say Daytona. BUT if you compare against the GMTIIc silver surfer (original), then I would go GMT.
The black and blue or "the GMTIIbatman" does not dress well in my opinion. I am not liking that color combo on ceramic. I think a GMTIIgreen lantern would look better....

For me GMT; however, that is one watch I need to see in person before I'm certain.

A couple of comments
I'm not going to give you an opinion on which watch to buy - that's a totally personal decision, but -
Nothing wrong with buying new from an AD, but I don't think it's necessarily a "right of passage." Buy there if you want, but I don't think you're missing anything if you don't. Also, i don't think you need to feel weird about buying a Daytona before a diver. There's no rule that says you have to. It seems as though you think there's a rulebook to buying Rollies - there isn't, buy what you want, where you want. Last edited by alanc; 16 June 2013 at 10:38 AM.. Reason: Sp |

I honestly don't feel the same hype over Daytona, that most people feel here. I think Rolex watch looks best with features unique to Rolex, such as Submariner look, which GMT shares. Or fluted bezel. Daytona is a very nice sports watch with a Rolex label, so to speak. i.e. If I could get only one Rolex, between two, I would pick GMT. I prefer green theme on the GMT though, so I like the previous GMTc version better than the new batman. Than again I like my non ceramic blue TT Sub better than all new reincarnation. That includes the latest TT Sub, where Rolex tries to go back to its classic Royal blue theme. I'm just a traditionalist, I guess. Oh, and I must have watch with the date wheel.

My Opinion?
Stick to this forum for few months, check all kinds of Rolexes, digest all the infos , then make one a goal for you! From what I can see you're not emotionally attached to any. Give it some time! It will be worth it, as you said It's not a small purchase ! To me, Daytona any day! |

M3 or a Nissan GTR or Toyota 86 or any car over a Porsche. They look the same for the last 100 years. "oh I got a 911 and it looks exactly the same as the one from 50 years ago but now it has more power"
Daytona in my opinion is more practical and a better choice(IF you have a reliable source + it a little blingy.) -it dosn't look out of place with pretty much anything -let's face it the only reason you use a analog> a digital is because it's easier to tell how much time you have left. You can use your phone for date. But then again Batman GMT is new lol. |

You know you're on a forum about watches where their basic design also hasn't changed in 40-50 years right? You could have written: "oh I got a Submariner and it looks exactly the same as the one from 50 years ago but now it has a sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel"I think the 911 is like a Submariner it is a design that has stood the test of time. Just yesterday I drove my stunning Riveria Blue 991 to the park to play basketball. As I was getting out of the car someone stopped their Jaguar next to it and asked if it was one of those special colors that costs $4k to order, I say no, it's one of the special colors that costs $7k to order. He says, "Hahaha, that takes balls man." After about an hour of playing, about 4 kids rode by it on bikes. They got off and started posing for pictures with the car, even lying on someone's lawn to get better photos of it. As for the OP, I think the best thing to do would be to try both and then pick. Of the two, I rarely wear my Daytona SS and I wear my 16710 all the time, so I'd probably pick the Blue/Black if I could have only one. |

I was going to argue about how I think the sub does look really old and it is one of my least favorite Rolex's but then I realized its personal preferences. You will like like 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang and I will want to rip out everything (besides the exterior) and update it.
I am in my early 20's I like watches that have a hint on newness like the Daytona or Skydweller (only watch I think looks nice with a fluted bezel.) If I were to pick between the Omega Speedmaster Pro and Omega speed master Broadarrow, I would pick the broad arrow. Point being its personal preference. And know what kills Porshe 991? The concept Lexus LF - LC, it got approved for production and I am going to get it the moment it comes out. It looks soooooo sexy and I HOPE they don't change there mind. |

Based on my experience it is highly likely that you are going to end up owning both so I wouldn't agonise over your decision - both are great watches.

It all depends what you have and what you want. The Daytona is an historical piece, very comfortable and nice size, but the lack of date, hard to read dial and sub-par lume doesn't make it a very practical watch IMO.
A better deal/value would be to skip both your options and get a mint/LNIB GTMIIC regular version from the Trusted Dealers and bank the cash. |
