Submariner from Rome
Hi guys, I've been following discussions for a while with an idea of buying submariner as a first rolex (already have one monaco steve mcqueen edition)...
I always thinking to get a 14060M COSC but a new opportunity comes up...I'll be in Rome for a weekend getaway (living in Turkey) and when I looked for second hand watch shops I find different options... I have several questions for you...First of all COSC vs. Non-COSC, does it really matter in the long run ? I mean, I never think to sell, would not need economically, but still would be willing that my watch's value be increased... Secondly, I find a 5513 Non-COSC...What would be significant differences between 5513 and 14060, is there a list ? As far I know, 5513 is easier to scracth so not a great everyday watch (wear 2-3 times a week), if it is so, is this real serious ?? I'm working in the office not on the field... In Turkey it is nearly impossible to find used Rolex with books etc. So buying from abroad is like my only option...A trip to NYC is in horizon as well (in October), so another question is spending 3.500 EUR for a 5513 or 14060 Non-COSC now, or wait for NYC trip. I know I raised a lot of question but I would like to feel comfortable before buying my first Rolex... Thanks for your time, guys... |

I believe that waiting for your NYC trip would be prudent. In a meantime you can do research, and decide whether you want to buy your watch there, or from one of the trusted TRF sellers who can ship it to your hotel.
Good luck, and congratulations! |

I tend to agree with waiting for your NYC trip. You can find several great deals on TRF. If you want to go vintage check out Jacek and others in the forum. Most will ship to your hotel.
Here is Jacek's site I often check myself. http://www.hqmilton.com/index.php/si...s/brand/Rolex/ |

I think I'll go with 14060M...
What is the market price range for non-COSC 14060M made in 2002/2003 with complete set, box and papers ?? As far as I search it is between 4900-5500 USD on the internet... Can you please help me on this... |

well...get back from my trip to rome...but it takes some time to post since there are a lot of things going on in turkey right now...
finally got my first rolex... 14060M, serial y non-COSC I wasn't sure about model because there was a 5513 in Rome as well, but, for a daily use I decided that 14060M would be better... my mind was clear about COSC vs. non-COSC deal, non-COSC has much better look on the dial, and since they both have the same movement it doesn't bother to for 4liner for me... finally I am a rolex owner too...my first mecanical watch was tag heuer monaco steve mcqueen edition, I am still very happy to own it...but rolex on the wrist has unmatched feeling... I bought it from Mattia Mastrolorenzi...he is very knowlegdable person and he interested with me a lot...I have questions when going there, so it wasn't 100% sure deal but the store, his attitude is really good...he also mentioned me that a new website is about to finish, so there would be online sale as well... now I'm waiting my hodinkee beige strap as a little gift to my watch...then I can enjoy it several years before thinking about buying the next one ;) thanks for rolexforum for providing me tons of information... |

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll love the 14060M, I love mine. I sometimes wish that I'd have made my first Rolex purchase several years ago and would have gotten the two line without the engraved rehaut like you purchased, better late than never though. The fact that this model is discontinued makes it all the more iconic in my eyes. Wear yours in good health. Welcome to TRF!

thanks guys...
cop414, I thought like you wrote, if I don't misunderstand you, I liked the two line classic look along without engraved rehault... I never think about "selling it one day" but I also like that I spend my money on a good cause, which would appreciate in time...I think this model match my thoughts... I also bought a new strap, I'll have in in couple weeks, then post some pictures...later on, I might thinking to buy a nato strap which would be perfectly the same as the one on sean connery's wrist in dr.no |
